Derny training Herne Hill 24/07

Postby Sylv » Tue Jul 22, 2008 5:36 pm

This morning I managed 31mph on my mtb behind a bus up Vauxhall Bridge.
The other day it was 35mph behind an ambulance up the Coulsdon bypass.
I'm planning to top that with a derny session on Thursday night - is anyone else?

Yep, can't use the track if it rains but it does dry pretty quickly. Won't be an issue tomorrow though.

What an awesome evening - I loved it - some form of track riding that I actually enjoyed. Legs are still aching though

The Shadow was there as well, sharpening up his sprint for the clubrun sign, and looking uber cool with his NEW yellow and black co-ordinated club coloured Pearson track bike, and in super form too, even though he was undergeared.

Sorry you had a bad experience Sylv, but don't take it out on us - I was only trying to help. You can borrow my track bike if it isn't too big. You weren't the only one.

Sorry if i was gruff, nothing against you of course Paul, but i had been looking forward to the track (and missed out on an evening of free beer by the riverside for it).
I hope Bridget managed it on the old red bikes, as when i thought i'd finally found one they'd let me ride i was told i couldn't use it for the derny
It was not an all bad evening as i got back my lovely black 585 afterwards ...

By the way, Marek G kindly lent me a track bike a couple years ago. It was too big unfortunately.

I'd love to try the derny pacing some time, although possibly not until next yer. What gearing did you use? (For info I use about 86" - 48x15 - on Herne Hill normally when not being dragged along by a man with his knees sticking out).

That was the gearing the Shadow was using, and he managed to hold the medium pacer OK. I used 51 * 15 which felt a bit big in the windy sections, but the slow motor would be comfortable.

Don't forget to tell them you haven't done it before and they'explain the etiquette - and enjoy - it was fab, but I am SL organiser next 2 Thursdays.
