The sun must be behind them - it's the shadow isn't it?

Oh my bad, I don't care who it is. Did he win? Have we had our first MALE RR win of the season?

Andy E gets my vote too. I think he does make it, either that or he naturally looks more composed on his bike at the limit than the two behind :) . Is that another agreeable in the background just dropped in the sprint.

Yep, it's me  Couldn't quite believe my luck to be honest. Arrived at sign-on with about 3mins to spare, just enough time to pin the number on and hand over my cash. It was my first RR of the season (not counting twice at palace) and with it being a handicap was a bit unsure what to expect. Our group went off first and the pace was pretty hot from the off. I think about 11 of us started which very soon became 9, with Jim (TSN) and a Sigma guy (on my right in the photo) doing most of the work and the group keeping up a really good pace. After a lap or two settling in everyone started sharing the work well with Jonathan doing some monster turns on the front. After a few turns myself i thought i'd test the water and put a few attacks in. Nothing stuck, think i had about 5secs at one point but with it being flat and no-one coming to join me they were doomed to failure.

So, with 4 laps to go it was back to doing turns in the hope we would stay away. Amazingly we started the last lap without any of the chase groups in sight and we kept the pace going. Coming into the final turn i was sitting about 5th, Rob W was at the front and strung the group out, with Mr Sigma in 2nd and Jim in 3rd. Not wanting to get boxed in i moved to the outside and pulled up alongside Jim, blocking him in (sorry jim  ) and waited for Mr Sigma to make his move. About 100m out he clicked up a gear and got out the saddle and i was straight on his wheel. Once he was up to speed and with about 50m to go i started stomping on the pedals and just managed to come past him on the line :D

Great work all round from everyone in the group, and 3 ACC'ers in the top 10 :D , including Rob W in his first ever race.

Well done Andy. :D

As a 3rd cat, I'd normally expect to get put in the 3rd group. Instead, I got put with the 2nd group. We had 4 of us (including Dan) regularly working on the front out of a group of around 12 of us. Some occasional help from others but lots of sitting-in. Eventually this gets demoralising, and the pace slackened a bit by lap 7. We didn't get a sniff of the front group. Had we kept the pace up, we may have kept away from the scratch group behind. We were caught 1/3 of the way around the last of 10 laps.

The remainder of the last lap with the scratch group way interesting. An attack on the hill, which was covered, then the pace backed right off before another attack before the last corner. The run in to the finish was rapid. I'd not much more speed in my legs for a sprint. I need to be braver with my positioning in the front group such that I'm nearer the front at the end.

What with Palace on Tuesday and this race yesterday, my legs feel a little jaded. I'm trying to ignore the prospect of 180km and 3700m of climbing on Tour of the Black Mountains tomorrow.

Well done Andy, we share the joint crown of 1st place ACC road racers so far this year. Fingers crossed for another one (for us both?) before too long.

Well done to all you other ACCers, especially Rob W - points already! Bodes well for the remains of the summer.

Chapeaux to everyone.

Sorry about the class of photo, I am no Sylv, but I think after this weekend and TOBM Keith might put some of the better one on the Flikr website.

It was a good race to watch, it was brilliant when you guys stayed away. Just shows what you can do when the group works really well together. I know others were disappointed with their groups, you would have thought people would learn after all this time and be willing to expend some energy. I am definitely coming back next year when it's at Newchapel again - this time to ride my bike in anger.

Is anyone else having problems viewing that photo?
All I can see is an empty bit of road and some bushes, I'm assuming there must be some cyclists somewhere.
