Beautifully still morning, we had great weather, early on it was nice and cool but I could see that big glowing ball up in the sky was just dying to heat things up for us and boy did it!

I shot off quite fast and and managed to pass Andrew on the first lap, I just wanted to get to his mum's wet sponge before him
Then on the second lap on the Guildford road leg Robert stopped just ahead of me with a puncture :(

I was feeling nice and fresh and had lots of carrots to chomp on which was much nicer than being the first man on the road in my previous 100.

Up the Southwater drag grabbed a wet sponge off Andrews mum which was lovely just as the heat was starting to get up. West Grinstead and left at the traffic lights, ahead I could see that they were green and really didn't want to wait on the red, I just made it through on amber to my relief.
This road took us off onto single lane roads which were particularly busy in the morning, I suppose alot of people were heading down't coast on such a nice day.

I enjoyed the course on the second part where we went off onto rolling country lanes, I actually felt faster on this section of the route and thought the A272 was very fast indeed well over 25 mph average.

Enjoyed all the Addiscombe supporters including Keith Wahman on his bike, Chris and John Watts,John Smith, The Greens, Syd, Earnie and the best Agreeable marshaling team at Cowfold thanks John and Alex.

Didn't have any worry, complaints , pains or problems so all I had to do was keep pushing the pedals round.

I must admit the finishing loop was indeed the toughest section of the couyrse and manageed to pass mike on a disgustingly steep drag, then whoopee I was the first Agreeable on the road.

Sprint to the finish line and straight into the shade and a nice sit down and chat with Keith, shouting encouragement to every agreeable as they went past with their faces of pain.Finished with a 4.11.07

Very happy with my ride it was a great tester session for the 12hour and everything seems to have come together with bike set and comfort, sorry I don't have a tale of whoe like some others who battled on through different hardships.

Funniest moment
I had finished got changed saw paul T come round for the last loop of the course then 10 mins later, ring ring ring ring I answered my mobile and it was Tom Tom Tunnel asking directions as he'd got lost in the Sussex lanes around shipley

2nd funniest moment
Paul and I were taking Keith W back home in the team bus, Keith was busy catching up with all his old school TT mates so I thought I'd load his bike up whilst we were waiting.
Then 10 mins later an old chap banged on the van and shouted at me Oi you've got my bike in the back of your van!! Oops it wasn't Keiths bike after all.
Big respect
The event was completed by an 82 year old man, so John L come on out to play at some longer distances.

OK, so here we go again...

Off to the start in frazzling heat (at 7:30am), with just KC behind me - how far could I get before he rocketed past? 2.51 miles according to KC - I didn't even make it to Hop Oast

During the past week, I have had a dull ache in my right lower leg - the one that was screwed back together - and haven't been able to push hard on it but most of the time OK, so I was spinnng smaller gears than normal up the hills and getting the power down on the flats and downhills - unfortunately the first 2.51 miles are ALL uphill

Now I was last rider on the road  and according to handicap times, would remain so until the end. Whizzed along Southwater bypass, over the lump to Clemsfold where I passed poor old Snoop and his snot trail , back up to BB Heath that was surprisingly quick and I could see my minute man in the distance. Got him a few miles later, so not last rider any more :D . Spent most of my time greeting the other Agreeables heading back to Southwater, some on their 2nd lap. Seeing so many riding strongly lifted my spirits, and I was buzzing along nicely until the climb to Moorhead 14mph  then a nice run along to Breezehurst and back - average up to 23.1mph. Caught Mike on his 2nd lap and gave him a wave as I went past. Up to Hop Oast and a great sight of Agreeable team support, but nothing needed on the first time round.

on to Southwater, and much a repeat of the above 2nd time round but fewer Agreeables in sight. At Clemsfold where I gave John Smith (Agreeable Darts Team member) a wave and nearly hit the kerb  Bizarrely saw big DP ahead of Jon Hemming (there must be a story there) and still behind Tamar (checked my time - I was only a minute ahead of Tamar), then saw Dominic only a few minutes ahead (later discovered he had punctured). Heading up to Hop Oast for a lovely cold wet sponge - no-one there - they had all moved off, so I just had to fry in the heat.

Down to Dial Post - green light :D and along a narrow single carriageway road to Clemsfold which wasn't wide enough for cars to safely overtake without crossing double white lines, then negotiate the mini roundabouts with nerves of steel, give Jon Avery a wave and head out to Bolney - more single carriageway busy roads - almost got taken out by a caravan that pulled in too early  . Spotted Dom again, turn and back to Cowfold, then down to Henfield - well mostly down, apart from the ups, Dom again, then back to Cowfold - didn't seem as bad as the last time I rode this. Very hot now and run out of drink - picked up bottle at Cowfold (thanks Jon :D )

Back to Dial Post, more horrible single carriageway, then out on to the A29 which gave some breathing space, but was very draggy. Down to Ashington, saw Dom, turn and back up through the finish 3:56:53 - only 12 miles to go - must beat my last SCCU 100 time of 4:45 by quite a margin, turned to Shipley (NO marshal and sign pointing upwards  ). Draggy uphill laney hot hard slog to main road, left along to ?? saw a "caution Cyclists" sign, but no marshal...not sure now in my mentally confused heat delirious state should I turn left? Checked with George back at HQ who assured me the turn was further on at Coolham....then head down to Ashington (or up as it seemed), another left and pop out at Ashington, quick bash up the A29 and Bob's tour Uncle.

Legs were feeling a bit weary at this point but managed to keep it above 20mph, and finished on my timing 4:31:50 (actual time 4:33:33). Boy that final 12 miles is tough.

Not too bad given that I was riding my "12" bike and not my TT one, but for me some of those roads were far too busy and dangerous.

Paul, I think you got confused in the heat by the signs on the loop. There were extra ones for a charity ride that was using some of those roads. Some of the roads were busy enough when I was on them and you were a long way behind on the road so it must have been horrible.

Thanks for sticking up the photos and link George. Dom that rear tub looks completely flat how on earth did you drag that round so quick!

Sorry Snoop but that "full aero tuck" picture is one of the funniest things I've seen in ages. I guess they caught you as you were stretching your back, but it's the bolt upright riding with full on visored pointy hat...

It's funny you mention that Andrew because that's what I thought when I saw it. Believe it or not the back one was the good one with about 120psi in it the front one only had about 40psi in it

Now look 'ere.....

1 - stretching my back.....? I was simply trying to avoid impending death.
2 - 2nd pic of me on TT bike - OK not perfect but not too bad, and I managed a tongue, I think George was the only other member of team ACC with the presence of mind to nail one for the tongues out comp :P
3 - bl00dy cheek :D :D
4 - it is quite funny actually. Had it been anyone bar Mrs Snoop at the handover point when I swapped bikes I'd have binned the lid, she won't let me ride without one  must be love.

Snoop was not the only snot-machine yesterday...that 2nd picture of me captures perfectly the big yellow booger streaked up my left thigh. It landed there sometime in the first 20 miles and was completely dried out and crusty by the end. It was a bit like watching paint dry and marginally more interesting than watching the miles tick slowly by. I would have wiped it away but my mitts were already covered with slime so didn't seem to be any point.
