Rear Campag Rec Mech Tech help req

Hi folks, my rear mech is a Campag Record Titanium.

The 2 pulleys now sound like a bag of old bones

1. Can I just change the bearings?
2. Will I just have to change the 2 pulleys?
3. Or will I need to get a complete new rear mech?
4. Shall I try a clean and regrease first?

By pulleys do you mean the jockey wheels?

First port of call clean and degrease, the jockey wheels get a bit clogged up with gunk from time to time. Remove them from the cage to do this best as you can get in to all the nooks and crannies easily - make sure you don't lose any bits. Also allows you to clean the inside of the cage for about the only time properly.

Next, if needed, or they are worn then replace them. You can get straight campag replacements, or if you want to pimp your ride get ones with ceramic bearings which will run smoother than a smooth thing - not the cheap option though.

When you re-fit either existing or new ones make sure you fit them the right way round, they are labelled top and bottom.

Red herrings on the jockey wheels (I wondered what the fishy smell was ). They don't have bearings in them, they only have Oil-lite Bushes in them, just had to clean them.

Then I stripped the cassette down and it all pointed to the two small bearings inside the freehub.
went down GB to buy some new bearings and noticed that the hug had split from end to end with only the sprockets holding it together. Need new freehub now. Butlers have to order them in special.

Stu was also in GB's spending his pocket money. People look so different when they are not in yellow
