Yet another great sporting event reduced to a meaningless spectacle .

I used to enjoy watching the olympics but it has, like so many sports, been tainted by cheats and liars and just doesn't hold the same appeal to me as a viewer anymore.

Good feature in the Guardian today the crux of which is that with a 'home' olympics just round the corner, a number of UK athletes on the cusp of being good enough to qualify for the team might be tempted into drug use in order to make the grade. I guess we're should get used to hearing more about this the closer we get to 2012

Perhaps this is the answer, catching the problem at the source rather than at the end, the end being in the athletes body.

Its a sad state of affairs when up and coming athletes are forced to think they may have to cheat to enable them to compete on a level playing field.
