12 hour TT entries.

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Just had a thought - some of the circuits were 10 miles last year.......at some point all 100+ riders will be on the circuit at the same time, therefore 10 riders per mile, or a gap of 176 yds or 162m between each rider and the next

Could be worse, Beastway course is +/- 2 miles with 130+ riders

Only lasts an hour though!

Oh poo, it's now very dodgy whether I'll be available as a helper for this. At the moment it's looking like I'm going to be out of the country with work over that wekkend.

Not the best of start times for George and myself  , it looks like we will only get one lap done of Circuit A thanks to local regs which require all riders off that part of the course at 9.30am

I have just sorted out ludicrously reasonable accomodation for myself for the Saturday night so I can crawl out of bed on to my bike (happy to have me keep in room) and start - Parents coming up early Sunday to start helping me but I can sort myself for the first couple of hours. It is in Great Chesterford itself so, yippee! I'll be training it up in the afternoon / early evening so with a bit of luck it should make it all as relaxed and hassle free for me as poss.

If any of you want the details in case they have another room let me know and I'll give you the details. I can stay there as I'm not having breakfast there as the lady who runs it (and does the breakie) won't be around but I can creep out early - she's used to mad cyclists having put up a chap from the Redmon who stayed there when he did a 24! She did also have other options that could be tried in the near vacinity if you want to see if there is somewhere else that can do a fry up at 4am.

Important update

Joyce is happy to open the club room, do tea, and offer words of wisdom from her vast experience in such matters.

Please bring your helper(s) if you can as they will also be able to help get a grip of what is involved in the day and for them - The helper's role is incredibly important to you and any/all tips will be very useful as we circle around and move from one circuit to another during the day.

Wednesday 8:30pm at the club room - Christchurch Methodist Hall, 114 Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon CR0 6AD.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Having been thinking it over since Saturday and I have decided not to ride the 12.

On Saturday I dropped my in-laws off at the airport and agreed to pick them up when they returned on 16/08. They were then going to babysit my boys while I rode the 12 and my wife supported. I then find out that they are actually coming back on the 17/08 and are due to land at 2am. Now it doesn't take a genius to work out that getting to Gatwick, back home and then to the 12 in time for my start will be tight. Any little delay and I will be late, possibly very late. This may not be such a big deal in a 12 but mentally I know I couldn't take standing at the aiport knowing that time was slipping away.

I have looked at all the options and the babysitters we rely on at times like this are away on holiday. I say we because my wife was looking forward to the 12 after the SCCU 100. We had discussed getting the kids up to go to the airport as well but that is a no go in my opinion

So the bottom line is that my inlaws have always been very good to me and I wouldn't let them down over something like this, so for the first time this year my cycling will have to be sacrificed for the greater good of the family.

I hope you all have a good day.

That's a pretty tough decision to make Dom but your right that family should always come first, something my wife is always telling me

We'll miss you at the 12, but remember there's always next year.

That's a shame Dominic but to be honest even if you could make it to the start with a bit of time to spare then an airport run, and waiting about a bit, then driving up that far would not have been a great build up to sitting on a bike for 12 hours.
