Having been thinking it over since Saturday and I have decided not to ride the 12.
On Saturday I dropped my in-laws off at the airport and agreed to pick them up when they returned on 16/08. They were then going to babysit my boys while I rode the 12 and my wife supported. I then find out that they are actually coming back on the 17/08 and are due to land at 2am. Now it doesn't take a genius to work out that getting to Gatwick, back home and then to the 12 in time for my start will be tight. Any little delay and I will be late, possibly very late. This may not be such a big deal in a 12 but mentally I know I couldn't take standing at the aiport knowing that time was slipping away.
I have looked at all the options and the babysitters we rely on at times like this are away on holiday. I say we because my wife was looking forward to the 12 after the SCCU 100. We had discussed getting the kids up to go to the airport as well but that is a no go in my opinion
So the bottom line is that my inlaws have always been very good to me and I wouldn't let them down over something like this, so for the first time this year my cycling will have to be sacrificed for the greater good of the family.
I hope you all have a good day.
