I know what you mean re. CP and I wouldn't want any of the park lost either. All I was trying to get at was the general wastage of money. Not all, but I'm sure some of the indoor events (which attract lower crowds) could have taken place there. It just seems daft to me to let existing facilities die when we are supposed to be supporting sport more for health but particularly in the build up to 2012.

There was an interesting programme on Radio 4 a while ago about young British swimmers, who will hopefully be our medal hopes for the 2012 games, having to travel ridiculous distances to train as the facilities weren't there. The number of 50m pools in the south east is negligable. They said that CP's pool was closed at the moment for renovation and had been told it should be open in August. As usual this is a load of rubbish and they have now been told it is likely to remain closed until about July 2009!

indeed, it's not only olympic hopefuls who are put out, my son has been having lessons at CP for the last 9 years, but can't now as the only pool left available there is too shallow for them to be properly assessed. Also out local pools in forest hill have been close for a while and will not be rebuilt for years.
