Campag Scrounge

Do any of you Campag users have a spare lock ring suitable for an 11 tooth bottom cog that I could purchase?

It took me a while to suss out why I couldn't get 11-25 speed Shimano cassette I've fitted to my Campag wheels (yes, I run a mix) to stop jumping in the 11 tooth cog. Turned out the chain was resting on the lock ring, rather than fully engaging with the sprocket. Speaking to Mr  Junior, turns out there's 2 sorts of lock ring; One for 11 tooth & one for 12 and above. (Why?)

If there's no spare readily available, I'll have to try to get one mail order as nobody seems to stock them locally.

Basically the 12t of a 12-something Shimano cassette is exactly the same part as the 12t of a 11t-something cassette - so you couldn't have a lockring that could work for both, diameter-wise.

Nope, it's a 11t Campag lockring, even though it's a Shimano freehub..... on a Campag wheel...

Confused? I am.

Keith I had the same trouble when I first started running a 11t shimano cassette on my Bora's, wondered why the top gear kept slipping in a road race.

The difference is that the 12 tooth lock-ring is the same diameter as the 11 tooth sprocket so indeed you need a smaller 11 tooth lock-ring so get your butt down Butlers or on ebay

or

You can purchase a campag 11-23 cassette on ebay quite cheap, keep the lockring and sell on the cassette minus said lock-ring back on ebay

if it's a shimano cassette on a shimano freehub, why not use one of sylv's shimano 11t lockrings?

Because the shimano freehub is really a campag type one with campag thread, but has shimano splines to enable a shimano cassette to slot on, sort of an adapter free-hub if you like. so only a campag 11t lockring will do.

I'd foolishly looked at their website, which doesn't list lock rings. Speaking to them directly, they do stock them.

What cassette would you want Paul? (Obviously it has to be a 10 x 11/??.)

Rode up to Bulters this arvo. Didn't have any 11 tooth lock rings, despite me ringing them on Monday - "yes we have those in stock". They didn't have any 11 tooth cassettes that included a lock ring either, apart from a £230  titanium Record one.

Apparently, the guy who does the Campag ordering is off until the end of next week, so it'll be the week after next before they could get any Campag spares. There wasn't a "oh, we've sold a load this week", or a "let me take your number, we'll get some and call you". I appreciate that this may be considered blasphemous on this forum, but that's not the first time I've been unimpressed at GBs.

It was a nice ride though.

Some aren't as good as others. I think they've got some new staff in recently too. I tend to always speak to the same 2 or 3 people who I know are good.
