Yeah... and...? :? er help me out. Aren't these guys trying just a little a bit too hard to create some kind of pseudo-cool-cycling-genre?

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]Ha ha, er no. It is even more over priced than the stuff you insist on sticking on your bike.

Quality costs :D .
I like some of the ideas of the SRAM stuff, Red is rather nice, but the problem is using it. Would you want to spend a big pile of cash on something and then find out you're not sure if you like it as much as what you had before? A test ride from a shop is not long enough.

I know Huw's fallen in love with the stuff, but then he normally uses Shimano so that's not necessarily a ringing endorsement :D . Probably have to wait until some of the hire outlets have them and then you could do a nice hol and give it a proper test.

I have tried it on a short test and have to say I was very impressed. It wasn't as confusing as some have said, was quite intuitive and worked well with slick changes.

A rider was testing the stuff for Sigma Sport last week and hated it - so I guess it's horses for courses.

I think the red is significantly better than the force though.

THere was a guy on LCS selling new Red gruppos for "decent" prices - £850 or so I think, that's gotta be less than Record

Trouble is that in most cases, you'll need a new wheelset

[quote]It is important to note that SRAM 10 speed cassettes will only fit on Shimano-compatible 9 speed hubs. They will not work on 10-speed-only hubs such as the new Dura Ace hubs or wheels. If you are using a 10-speed-only rear hub then you will need to use a Shimano 10 Speed cassette.

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]With RED i just dont get the one piece cassettes. I mean, I see the savings in weight and the other technical stuff. However, if you want to change it then you have to change the whole cassette. There is no room for customising the range of cogs.

You should change the whole cassette anyway with brand X and brand Y. Mixing and matching new & old cogs is just asking for shifting trouble.

The concern I'd read that people had was that it would eat though hub bodies, but apparantly that hasn't been happening.
