Ride to the Silent Pool - extended CR

Postby Amy » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:26 pm

As I didn't make it to the Silent Pool today and I've been thinking about it seeing it again for awhile now, I've decided to make it the destination for an extended clubrun on either 6th or 13th September. Any takers?

As you may know, the Silent Pool is just the other side of the North Downs, not far from Albury and Shere, just off the junction of the A25 and A248.

[quote]Silent Pool

This is a small tree lined lake near to Shere. It is said that a woodcutter who lived in the forest had a son and a very beautiful daughter, one day the daughter was bathing in the lake when she heard a horse and rider, she had no time to get out and dress, so she waded deeper to cover herself, the rider tried to get her to come out of the water but she would not, this angered him so he went in with the horse to try and get her, to try and avoid him, she waded even deeper still, on the sound of her cries her brother tried to help but he could barely swim either, they both ended up drowning and the horseman rode off, their father searched for his children for days until he dragged their bodies from the lake. The ghosts are said to haunt the lake and the girl is said to be seen floating on the water, and her pleas for help heard. It as become known as the silent pool due to its eerie calmness.

Sounds a bit scary to me.

It's Ok, if we get enough people going it'll be fine. The saddest I've seen the Pool was when it dried up completely :(

When the pool is full, it's a lovely place, very atmospheric if you can get it all to yourself and the water is like clear glass.

Sorry  .

I can't do the 6th (ACC 10), but if you do the 13th then I'll tag along. Don't know the roads around that way too well so would be nice to find a few new ones.

Behave. I'd get my kit wet anyway ;-)

Sounds like another club run where Budgie Smugglers will be required.

That's it - I do not want to see Sean in a budgie smuggler  The idea of him getting his kit wet (especially if it's his white kit) was almost unbearable - budgie smugglers, no no no a thousand times no

This was intended to a pleasant ride, with a destination in mind that some people might not have seen let along heard of and now you've spoilt it all - go away :(

OK, this conversation has gone downhill enough

Getting back to the original thread, would anyone like to join me on a ride from Charlwood in the next couple of Saturdays after the Brighton ride?
