With the fantastic success of our cyclists so far at these Olympics , My two eldest sons 11 and 9 want to have a go at track cycling !

Does anyone know how I can get them a try out at Herne Hill ?

Cheers

I think you can just turn up at the novices session on a Saturday morning (9am).

Yeah just go along to HH on saturday at 8.45 and the guys from VCL will take care of the nippers

There should be no problem with a 6 year old - the Go Ride coaching policy insists on complete equity so they'll accommodate him even if he's the only one in his age range - that said there's normally a few at that age anyway. Be aware that the bike hire range begins with a 'typical' 6-year-old so if your dustbins are taller/smaller than average they might have a problem with fit.

While we're on the subject - are there enough member's with children in the club to warrant doing our own ACC coaching sessions? I can legally do groups of up to 15 riders, ages 6 - 18, basic & intermediate riding skills (parental supervision most welcome but not absolutely necessary as long as you can deliver and remove your little angels to and from the venue). This is completely different to 'Bikeability' classes which teach you basic road craft in so far as I teach basic bike handling techniques in a fun, traffic free environment. So when the kids DO progress to riding on road, in groups etc they have the correct underpinning knowledge of 'how' to ride.

I'm currently doing these in local schools (at least I am during term time) and at a local evening bike-club but it'd be great if we could provide a series of sessions specifically for ACC kids. And lets be honest there's a parent or two who could do with a few tips too am I right? :D :D :D
Sessions are 1-hour long and I recommend 4 to 6 to turn your pride and joy into the next Nicole Cooke (potentially)

Anyway, let me know if interested

An ACC coaching session sounds like a great idea Huw, I would be interested for three of my lads .

Carl , I have a six year old too so your son would not be on his own :)

Excellent

If we can get a group of 5 or 6 riders it'll be a very productive session

How old are your boys Dominic? (and just how many have you got if you're only bringing a couple? :D )

I'll set this up asap

Have PMd you Huw on this subject. I have a whole load of kids who would love proper coaching (Sutton Cycling Club).

absolutely up for this. No problem staying and helping out either. I've been trying to decide what I can take Hugo (nearly 7) along to since he's really into his cycling.

This is starting to look good - with a bit of luck we'll be able to do some age-specific groups like a 6-8 group, 8-10 and so on
This facilitates the learning process much better than a wide range of ages in the same group
