There was a nice symmetry as 16 riders (Monty, Phil, Fabo, Gavin, Connor, Monica, Jenny, Sam, me and I’m sorry didn’t get all your names) headed off in the 16 mph group with the temperature reading 16 degrees centigrade. Monty and Phil ably led the way – they set a nice steady pace which got us into Brighton at exactly 16 mph average – blimey!! expertly done!! nice one fellas!

Ditchling Beacon was fun. Dead chuffed to see (well I didn’t actually see it as I was still half –way down the hill but you get the idea) my boy, Sam, beat Monty ‘the Mountain Goat’ to the top. Monty “I’ve only just recovered from a heavy cold” the Mountain Goat was magnanimous in defeat. (He only flicked Bolognaise sauce in my face. It could have been so much worse.)

Fabo the Italian Skier was last up – his first CR, first time on a bike in a year, pushing a big 39/25 gear – his awesome effort inspired the rest of the group to spontaneous applause, cries of Bravo!! Forza!! Forza!!! and a rendition of Nessun Dorma. 8) :D

Quick photos on the pier and then a mad dash on to the Regency to ensure we got there first to get the best tables – in the sun and out of the wind – and avoid the queues.

Grilled plaice and chips, and a pint of Pepsi was probably not the best choice of meal before a ride of 50 odd gruelling miles but I must say that the plaice was absolutely delicious – fresh, fresh, fresh (you could almost taste the raw sewage) and done to perfection. :D

Untangled the bikes (one unforeseen problem of being the first to arrive), photos in the garden and then we (now 20 with an additional four joining our group) headed back.

Unfortunately we had a crash – the peleton slowed suddenly - she touched a wheel and she was off. Fortunately, not too badly hurt (I hope?) – bruises and grazes. As Fabo says a w*nker in a bl**ding great big car tried to push through us honking his horn as we helped her to her feet. T*sser!!!

We all got to Faygate together (well almost – someone had to get the train and one or two went with them) and in one piece then after a brief rest to regroup we were off again. The pace noticeably quickened as Connor finally warmed up! :D

I went through a real rough patch as my stomach manfully tried to digest the Piscean delight and couldn’t keep up. I had to ease off for 5 minutes and then despite a huge effort I couldn’t get back to the main group – god knows where they got to but they weren’t waiting for anyone! We passed several of the group who were spat out the back but in the end we gave up and Sam and I decided to make our own way home.

We waited for a few minutes at the turning to Leigh for any stragglers – sorry Fabo didn’t know if you were in front or behind us. Rode gently to Reigate and then blitzed it to SE25 along the A23 picking up Richard on the way.
Home by 5.45. 104 miles door-to-door at just over 15 mph average. Really enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone for another Agreeable day! Fantastic!! :D

Just posting to say what an enjoyable ride! I haven't looked back since joining Addiscombe a couple of months ago, and my second Brighton ride already - all good stuff. Ditchling Beacon nearly made my lungs come out of my mouth this time but that's only because I was following (well, getting left behind by) 'Matt the animal' who proceeded to casually slaughter our 17/18 mph group on the way back with a blistering pace as well. Going down into Brighton was great fun with the steel frame on my trusty Carrera providing valuable momentum, only about 48mph for me this time though! I didn't know where I was for about 90% of the route so can't really join in the debate about traditional vs. innovative routes taken, all I know is that the people I was riding with seemed to be in a constant state of flux! I could see at least someone with an Addiscombe jersey at all times though so knew that it hadn't gone that wrong.
Hoping to be united with a brand spanking new Felt bike by next club run if my company lease scheme sorts me out ;-) so I don't have to burn up with so much envy at all the beautiful bikes I see every week on the club run!

Cheers guys

[quote="Fabobiker"]Discovered I was at Gatwick airport, so I made my way slowly back through the A23 to South Croydon. (A bit of extra milage for me..got home at 6.30). Done 106 MILES !

Il nostro amico povero Fabrizio! :(

Poor Fabrizio! First time out with the Addiscombe and you end up at Gatwick! So sorry about that. The others assured me you would tag on to someone's wheel. Sounds like you've not been put off too much and will come out with us again. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

I thought I'd just have a steady ride down with the 18's sitting at the back and not having to lead....and then an extended return. Didn't quite turn out that way as mob culture ruled and I was forced onto the front, and once there, just had to determine the route, so took off on a few quieter detours than the main road, which was not to everyone's liking, but a group had settled behind deciding that I hadn't taken a wrong turn after all, and enjoyed some magnificent lanes, countryside and views. Me up with some others at the top of Ditchling and a blast into Brighton with Sylv and Keith got us to the pier on time.

Having read the reports, it seems like we had a very uneventful but enjoyable return, with Paul on a Pearson and Dan taking a magical mystery tour with MrPVT.

Churning along into a nice blustery headwind, it soon became apparent just how strong Dan is - so left him on the front for some nice long turns (that'll slow im down - it didn't work) to Shoreham, then slipped round the back of the airport and up through the lanes to Botolph and Steyning. Dcision time - on to Petworth, or back up - back up to partridge Green, Littleworth, maplehust, Monks Gate and a detour through Horsham (chez Tunnell...soon, we hope!!) then up Rusper Hill (oh dear), partly following the club run route in reverse, then up Pebble Hill(oh dear oh dear) and completeing the ride through Banstead and down to Purley Cross, then into Croydon for 110 miles on the clock.Dan and Paul had a bit further to go. I was struggling on the steeper climbs but Ok on the other bits - thanks for a great ride guys :!: :!:

Another great day out on the bike with the Agreeables.

Thanks John, I forgot to mention that you all guys were brilliant in encouraging me on top of Ditchling and also when you were passing me on all other hills
(it sounds like I am a real "turtle on a bike"...grrr I hate that  ! I can't wait to have more milage in my heavy skier's legs! :D

I used a more italian word to scream to that idiot: "BASTARDO"! I can't believe he had that attitude!

Thanks Jon and Monica,
it was fine for me guys, thank you all again to always make sure the slowest were there..unfortunately the turning I missed was at the top of the hill, and with my legs not responding, it took me just that little bit more time to get there, that I missed the last one of you to follow.
As I realised I'd lost the group, I took it very slow and easy back home, once I found the way. (I have to say that the road signs are very poor in that area  ..)
Unfortunately this coming Saturday I can't make it for the CR, but if Sunday someone is going for a ride, I'll be able to join..otherwise see you the following Sat.
:) Cheers, Fabo
