Wigmore CC Hill Climb

Wigmore CC Hill Climb

Pasted in a copy of Doug's upcoming event.
I can email the prospectus and entry form if anyone is interested.
John.

Good morning all,
It is coming up to that time of year when riders thoughts turn to the Hill Climbing Season. Well some do. They are great social occasions and generate a wonderful atmosphere that other TT's often do not. Also a time to meet an chat with those that you may not have seen for a while.
The Wigmore CC are promoting for the 33rd year, their Classic Hill Climb on October 5th. Fancy giving it go? Again a tremendous prize list is on offer and well spread too. You do not have to be a specialist hill climber to enjoy such an event.
Not convinced? Come on, give it a go and you may be wanting to come back for more. The Wigmore event apart from incorporating the Kent CA Championship is also the event chosen by 10 clubs who use it for their domestic hill climb championship.
I attach a Prospectus and Entry Form. Entries should be received by me by Tuesday September 25th. Though may hold open for a few more days.
I look forward to receiving your entry. I will not object if you wish to let others know about this very popular Kent Hill Climb.

Yours in Sport,

Doug Laidlow

Closing date is fast approaching. An excellent opportunity to build up to it by riding the Wigmore event. You might also fancy the Kingston Wheelers event the day before.

The Wigmore HC used to be pretty much my favourite local event. The hill is a good one - a relatively steady gradient to start, then steepens round some gentle bends at about two-thirds distance, then eases off for the finish line at the top. Total climb is roughly a mile. It is nothing like as steep as either the Bec or Catford events. Instead it is twice as long!

There's usually a good turnout, anywhere from 50-70 competitors, ranging from the very fast to the not so! Normally there's a good level of crowd support too - not quite to the Bec/Catford "Alpe d'Huez" noise level but more than enough to give you a lift when it starts hurting towards the top.

Hollingbourne looks a little way down in Kent - but is a very easy run down the Motorway on a Sunday morning. Good parking facilities at the top of the course too.

Will I be competing? Unfortunately, having riden it many times in recent years (I think I missed winning by 0.5s in 2003), I'm not competing this year. About 20hrs total riding time on the bike in 2008 and no rides at all for the last two months is not good preparation! Those of you who are fit and have been tempted to do a bit of hill climbing, should definitely give it a go. Maybe treat it as prep for the Bec / Catford.

How nice of you Tony to give such praise to the event. Your presence was always welcome, so am sad that we will not be seeing you this year.
