If anyone sees Lady Luck, could they pass on a message on my behalf;
Keith says he's sorry. Whatever he's done, he's very sorry and wants to make amends.
Surrey League Handicap Championship. 1 mile into the last lap. A group of 7 of us out front. Not a sniff of the chasing group behind, even down the longest straight. Legs feeling good, even very good.
I'd spent the last couple of laps planning where I was gone to attack for the finish, assuming things remained as they were. There were a couple of strong guys in our group, plus one dark horse who popped up each time we climbed the short hill to the finish line.
Round a left hand bend and the rear wheel moves in that unmistakable tyre's going to roll off the rim way. Continue for a couple of seconds in a state of denial. Can't be happening now. No, I can feel the rim now (easy Finbar ). Puncture. Game over.
Oh well.
About 3 minutes after I'd pulled up, the chasing bunch came through. At the finish, 2 had bridged the gap, with Chris Moores of Norwood Paragon taking the win. Awesome effort to have made that bridge, and then have enough for the final hill. The rest of the bunch came in about 2 minutes later.
To #42 of Norwood (Ian I think) and #44 of Twickenham, if you read this, it was a pleasure riding with you.
