Hell's Teeth!!

Postby Snoop Doug » Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:20 pm

3rd day of the Commutopia experiment. Good fun especially the ride in clocked a new PB of 53.17 door to door 13.77 miles and a whole bunch of red lights

On the way home - criminy it was really windy, hard work. How did it feel for all you London commute regulars....? Have I got to get used to this  or was today somewhat exceptional... :?:

Snoop, I rode into work for the first time today from East Grinstead. It was mega quick, I think I did 1 hour 45 mins. I was sitting outside Fenchurch Street station at 7.30am drinking a nice Mocha thinking blimey that was quick.

When I went to lunch I realised that it was pretty windy, and then leaving home on the bike I realised that it was bliming windy, which is no doubt why the ride in felt so good. I did about 1 hour and 5 mins to Sanderstead Station where I then hopped onto the train for the remainder of the journey.

Really enjoyed it, has whetted my appetite to cycle in a bit more now.

Cheers

Marek.....

Good one Marek, that's some ride 1st thing in the morning - we'll get you on a nice long TT yet  Good fun innit.

Sean - and all you other number nerds.....

I think my ave speed was 15.5mph including all the stops. Much slower on the return - only around 12.5mph. As soon as I hit London Bridge I backed off a bit and thought - this is not going to be a fast one. Wind was around 17.5mph SW. Managed 1.06.41

Total round trip journey time was 1.59.58. I absolutely caned it up the last two roads to make it home in under 2 hours 8) Total time in motion was 1.49.40 (I can't split time in motion between laps unfortunately).

So far best inward time was today, best outward time was last Thursday with a 1.02.45. Best overall was last Thursday with a 1.57.35.

I'm hoping to try again on Wednesday - day off tomorrow. Well it's been two weeks since me Summer hols like  That'll be it for the week though as I'm WFH on Friday.

G'night

I normally commute everyday but can't at the mo because of the hip. To make it wore your all on here posting about great commutes and other rides and I am crammed on a train which they have halved from 8 to 4 carriages tonight so I was sweating like a pig just standing there!! :(

I have something called "hip joint narrowing" and "ligament damage" (probably caused by doing stuff at a funny angle when my hip hurt).

Apparently it is the spongy space between the femur and the hip (pelvis) has shrunk and its bone on bone (at worst) which then makes the joint swell and its a viscous circle.

Just got the letter to book physio today and have been swimming two or three times a week since i last rode about 3, 4 weeks ago. to help build the strenght around the joint to stabalise it.

I keep thinking that I will be back in a week or two but then I twist or turn and find its still agony which then makes me think it will be longer.

The doc says that it will probably be a couple of months atleast but it will dpend on how it responds and how much work I do in terms of physio.

I am really missing the club runs & commuting and hate the train so the temptation is strong to come back ASAP but could lead to longer term problems inlcuding arthritis so probably not worth it. I really can feel the fitness gradually ebbing away though which is horrible.

Set a PB this morning for the amount of water I was able to squeeze out of my socks.

Your own fault for cycling in today, I looked out the window and saw the monsoon and decided the train and a book was a better option.

Yes Snoop bloody windy coming home yesterday, I too hit London Bridge and thought oh %!£$%%!!! On the plus I met Jon H, Rob RE, and Kieran on the way home - most Addiscombe I've seen in one commute. It surprises me I don't see more people as a lot of us use the same roads but it's actually quite rare I see someone, either that or they see me first and make a quick turn.

Bad luck Mark that sounds nasty. Don't rush though as you certainly don't wantand long term damage with such a major joint. We'll be getting in to the off-season soon anyway so hopefully you can start to build up again when everyone else starts and won't miss too much.
