Thanks for this Michelle. I've put it in my diary and will try to make it. Am not convinced I'd like to race, but the training sounds like fun.

Cheers,
Monica

Nice one, John Leitch is a nice guy, has been really helpful with me. I am sure you will enjoy it. Tell the other women at the club run, will you, I am sure there are only a few females who read the forum on a regular basis.

Thanks Michelle,

I might go to this - if you can vouch that it will be better than the last one you suggested ;-)

When I went to Hillingdon before I went on the train, which was ok except for the trek accross London from Victoria to Paddington. If anyone else is going and can offer me a lift it would be much appreciated :-)

Bridget, there is NO WAY that John is anything like that other creepy bloke ( whom I hope you shopped BTW).

Why don't you try emailing John and asking him to put you in contact with some others from round your way who may be driving. I am sure everyone needs a little help with the petrol money these days.

His email is on the bottom of the post.

My experience of winter race training with John were brrrrrrrrrr... but otherwise quite helpful with different drills and some endurance work - cycling there is an option - it takes about 1 hour from CSS. He didn't lay a hand on me!

John is a great bloke and his coaching sessions are well worth doing, plenty of varied exercises (The first session might be a bit basic thru n' off as he needs to suss out who knows what and a lot of the women who go haven't ridden with groups before. A Dartanian facial hair arrangement but full of knowledge. Whether you want to race or not the coaching is a good way of picking up lots of useful tips you can use at any time, and it is also a good way of pushing yourself over winter if you need a bit of a shove to push yourself.

Hi,

Just to say that I am definitely going to this, and Chloe told me that she probably will too. I emailed John this week and he said he there are about 10 places left (out of 30) on both the days.

Cheers,
Bridget

Bridget, Chloe, and others, ask John about this as well. Although it says "men" from when I did it a couple of years ago there were a few women there and the stronger among you (faster 18 & 19s CR group riders) would be fine. To be honest there were some weaker riders (strong 17 and 18s CR level and it was advertised as the same cat 3/4 level) but John just split us in to two or three groups based on ability for some of the exercises (chasing a rival and the like) as he had one or two other coaches with him sometimes. Others like the long drag hill intervals were all done as one group.

It may be a bit different than from when I did it as far as the setup is concerned, splitting men and women's sessions, but if these aren't suitable then he may be running other "Power Pack" sessions that would be more open. They are run around the CR area so the roads aren't alien to you and are based on Surrey League circuits so if you are thinking of doing any of the SL Handicaps next season then could provide a handy intro.

As I said before a very nice bloke and he'll be happy to help with advice.
