My new bike and the handlebar tape

Postby Amy » Sat Sep 06, 2008 3:00 pm

There seems to be a division amongst people as to whether they like my handlebar tape on my new bike.

I put it on because 1) I had it to hand and it hadn't cost me much and 2) I thought it would look good, a hint of colour and just picking out the titanium grey of the bike.

So, to the vote, who likes, who doesn't like it and who doesn't give a monkey's uncle!

Well Amy I've not seen your new bar tape, but I'm sure its lovely and the importance of "accessorizing" is not to be scoffed at. Also whilst on the subject of bar tape do you reckon "white" is a bit last season?

It's a bit busy for my tastes but then it's not my bike - wish it was though as I like them :D .

I use this stuff. Only the single colour though, and black but it has a nice white "stitch" in it. Very comfortable and durable, it lasts ages and if also good in wet weather - both for grip but also still looks good once it's dried out. Strong so easy to fit too, what more could you want.

I am contemplating white hudz and black tape for next season. Amy, have no idea what yours looks like, can we see a picture?

Why do you need a photo? If you haven't noticed it, it can't be that screamingly bad, huh?

OK, , it may be 'busy' but at least the frame isn't 'busy' which is why I, personally, thought it needed the patterning on the handlebars. I was tempted by the Brooks leather handlebar tape but felt it needed a brown brooks saddle to go with it - and I'm pretty sure I sold the one I had that would have gone with it. Also I was told that leather tape tends to sag in wet weather; though I do wonder if Brooks has managed to get round that with better treatment in the production of the tape)

Personally I think the penchant for white handlebar tape (and saddles) is only for the posers 8)

I nearly put it on my fixie but didn't have a saddle to go with it, or the inclination to spend 18 months breaking one in.

Now that I have a bit of time at work, I'd just like to say - thank you, Sylv. I hope my taste is a lot better than that. Each to their own 8)
