Sorry to hear about that Sean. I hate having cross the tramlines at east croydon and Addiscombe but I don't think there any alternatives.

It happened to me once, and I realised how important it is a good helmet

Those tramlines are notorious - I used to have to go that way every day and got caught early one morning when they had a film of water (dew) on them and it was like trying to ride across 2 lines of ice, it was so slippery and down I went with nasty bumps and bruises and shredded clothing.

That is the problem with the tracks leading into the stop and leaving you nowhere to go.

In Milan, where they have a tram stop, the cycle lane continues behind the stop, so you hardly ever cross them, except at right angles.

BTW helmets are designed to absorb impact. The foam liner may split and it will still have done it's job as long as the external shell maintained it's shape.

By sheer coincidence, on the way back from the open 10 on Saturday, Joyce was reminiscing about the tram tracks along the A23 through Purley in the olden days, and how the "proper" cyclists used to laugh at the sit-up-and-beg riders who got caught out by the tracks and fell off on a regular basis.

So Sean, don't expect any sympathy from the Boss!

P.S. hope you have a speedy recovery from your bruises.
