SCCU 25

Postby Andrew G » Sun Sep 07, 2008 8:52 am

DNS - overslept  . Looking out the window it's windy and pretty miserable so not overly disappointed, done enough races in wind and rain this season to not be annoyed at missing another one.

Just got to wait for the drizzle to stop to get the TT bike out the car. Change that it's just started hammering down and if I'd woken up on time I'd be about 2/3rds round so if it's the same in Horsham you have my sympathy folks.

Left home at about 6.30am and it was raining and getting worse as I drove past Gatwick. It was still raining lightly as I was 6 miles from the HQ but by the time I got there and parked it had stopped, game on!!!

This was my first race since the SCCU 100 and it is amazing how you lose that little zip that regular racing gives you. I went fairly well considering and managed to give myself a good pasting in the process. Was pushing slightly bigger gears than normal as an experiment. Probably not the best day to do it as there was a bit of wind about  My buttocks are paying for it now

Finished with a 1.00.38, my first time outside the hour for over a year but seeing as the times seemed to be about 2 minutes slower than normal, eg Tim Stevens did a 57, I am not worried. No moving up on the SCCU BAR though. Other Agreeables present were Jon Hemming, Mark McLaughlin, Mike Ingram, Robert Royle Evatt and Tamar. I am sure they will be along to tell their stories of the day.

Roll on the rest of the season :D (what's left of it)

Andrew very comfortable saddle, more comfortable that the Fizik in a weird way, must be the width, fnar fnar

Don't you believe it! Let's just say that tea and cake proved more appealing than the last 10 miles today.

It was the width that caused me problems  , but the end is noticeably firmer which may be what you found you liked   .

Keep it 'til the end of the season and make sure you continue to get on with it. If you want to keep it after a few more sessions in the saddle :o then it's yours for a couple of ladies........(a tenner).

Up at 5am, togs on, brekky, out the door at 5.30, pick up Mark McL at 5.45, arrive at HQ at 6.45, unload Mark who has an earlier start time than me, then have a bit of time to kill. Helped a damsel in distress pump her tyres up (to 180psi  ), got a text from Andrew saying he'd overslept, bit of a natter with a couple of peeps, pinned a couple of numbers to people's bums, then it was time to get ready.

The rain we'd driven down in had stopped by this time, although the roads were still pretty wet so I got a wet bum and feet as soon as I started getting warmed up. Decent temperature though, so not too bad.

A stonkingly fast trip out to the first turn, then back into the headwind. Going up Tollgate hill was a welcome break from the headwind! Felt reasonably good all the way round and I could push the gears into the wind to keep the speed up. Had some very oddball readings on my speedo because it had got wet - it was showing a cadence of 457 at one point.

I usually figure that if I get to the Southwater turn in 50 minutes then a sub-hour ride is on the cards. 52 minute this time, damn. Finished in 1:01:40. Reasonably pleased with that though, and at least I've qualified for the SCCU BAR now.

ACC results:
Dominic Lowe 01:00:38
Jon Hemming 01:01:40
Mark McLaughlin 01:01:56
Robert Royle-Evatt 01:02:00
Steve Hehir (2nd claim) 01:04:18
Tamar Collis 01:09:01
Mike Ingram DNF

I always reckon on 10 minutes from looking across to the timekeeper.

Well done Jon (and all) on a tough day.
