Recovery programme

Postby nigel w » Mon Dec 13, 2004 11:51 am

Hi Thankyou for all of your emails

The broken nose and scars are healing well, but the bike is a write off. Never mind, I have already bought another, hopefully with radar!.

As it is only 6/7 weeks to Mallorca 2005 can anyone suggest a recovery programme, to get me back up to speed, having been off the road for 4 weeks .

thanks

See if you can find a gym spinning class locally, its not cold and dark then-plus you dont have to clean your bike, it will give your lungs a workout!
The best bet would be to take it fairly steady and use Majorca to get your winter miles accumulated.
Are you about on Thurs evening as Jo and I were going to pop by.

Recovery programme, maybe mince pies and mulled wine would be a good place to start.

Cheers

kind of agree with marco about the wait before you start training idea.

4 weeks of the bike is nothing, muscles have a good memory so you wont have lost anything that cant be regained quickly.
if you really want to get back to training, then start off slowly. think of a taper, start with a nice session in the gym either on a rower or fast walking, or indoor cycle trainer. anything to keep your cardio system active. that will be beneficial for recovery, but you dont need to do any hard sessions, theres no need for anything like that especially at this time of year.

again with the cycling abroad trip, theres really no need to go mental thinking the more you ride the faster/fitter you will be. ride a couple of days, make it fun rather than training based... the training aspect of riding should really be secondary to enjoyment... unless you plan on earning a living from the sport. then its a different kettle of fish..

thats just my 10pence worth.

Jayne

Thank you for the advice. My wife is rather reluctant to let be back on the bike yet, perhaps after christmas.

Ian
