How I understand it - when you are climbing you are constantly trying to accelerate the wheels, on a steep climb the wheels virtually stops turning at each dead spot of the pedalling (feet at 12/6o'clock), so a light rim is bes as you have to accelerate it at each crank half-revolution. That was the reasonning behind that weird system of wheels with springs in the spokes I posted a while back - at speed the springs would shoot next to the rim for maximum inertia (and speed), and at low speed they would remain near the hub to lighten the outer edges of the wheel.

all else being equal, and ignoring aerodynamics, durability and price, i can't see any reason why you'd want anything other than the lightest rims possible in any scenario.

Pretty much, although on TTs aerodynamics have more importance than weight, but light and aero would be better.

Campy's marketing department seems to disagree as the Shamal (heavier rim) is more expensive than the Neutron! So there should be a reason... but maybe it's just the slight aerodynamic advantage... and bling factor (must admit I love those Shamals :D )!

I would say any wheels that are Campagnolo are totally bomb proof and I can proove it.

My Campy Bora's have got to be the strongest and best wheels ever.

I have road raced and TT'd on them for 2 seasons now and have given them some real punishment whith numerous crashes some even head on at break neck speed with not a spoke out of true.

I've hit numerous pot holes and even ridden over debris in the road.

I even had the tub roll off at the palace, I've ridden them flat, my rear disc fell apart in the half day time trial in August but that was not Campagnolo, that was a cheap substitute.

They still run true as the day I bought em

I think the hubs on the Shamal's are better than the nuetrons. Rob W has a pair and they're super-pimping full carbon jobby's and buttery smooth 8)

Fabulous. This is the kind of technical excellence that I log on here for, and which frankly we don't see enough of. Buttery smooth.....I'm there 8)

I believe there's an upgrade available to make them utterly butterly.

Oh Doctor...... what a way to end the working week. I wonder how effective would a giant crumpet be as a disk wheel, mmmmm.
