[quote="huw williams"]Last year the B race went round Hillingdon in third gear until the last few laps. Nobody tried any moves and guess what happened? The guy who ALWAYS wins the sprint on the club runs in similar circumstances won the sprint. Doh! What a surprise!
Well, that's not quite how I remember it Huw. There were a quite few moves, but I kind of acted as "patron of the peloton" (I still can't believe that people listened to my calls) and made the calls about whether I thought any attack had a chance of staying away. Any that looked like the attackers were strong were chased down, others just withered and came back in 1/2 a lap or so. Most of these moves started on the "wiggly bit" after the start/finish area, and were over by the drag up to the line, so were probably never visible to you and Toks. The field also fractured a bit in the lap before the first prime, and I tried to get my fellow "prime movers" to work together to stay away, but there was some reluctance.
I don't ALWAYS win the sprints - I've hardly contested any this year, prefering to act as leadout man to ensure a safe sprint with no incursions onto the other side of the road round the last bend. Besides, my scouting report would read "Gobby, tubby and old. Can't climb, too indisciplined to time trial, can sprint a little" One should play to ones strengths
