Your 2008 Cycling Goals Please!!

A Place to idle the day away talking about anything you fancy. Expect to find cycling and non cycling topics inside

Sean, for number 1 I can recommend either the Catford or for an even better route (taking in Toys) Old Ports.

Marco, I like the sound of your International tour, would you cycle everywhere? Having found out how good the trains in Europe are I thought of doing a little trip myself. Various good days riding with train links to get from say France and then visit Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Say 7 nights with a couple of days in each country and stay in cheapo B&Bs. Not sure if I'll do it next year, but definately one in the pipeline.

Ok, here you go...

1. To stay on my bike, all year...
2. If no.1 fails, not to get injured in the process.
3. Win a race, preferably on the road.
4. Win a stage race.
5. See that those close to me succeed in their aims, be they ACC or whoever.
6. A 22min 10
7. Beat the hour for a 25... gonna need some encouragement for this one though!
8. Enjoy it all, hopefully by murdering de Ronde van Vlaanderen parcours in April, and dying a thousand deaths in the Alpes... again. And see some more of the world without my bike :?
9. Oh and meet another bunch of fantastic people while chilling out doing London to Paris in July. Im 99% certain for this for Action Medical Research. Seriously, it was probably the best four days I had on a bike this year...

If I can get close to ticking off all 9, i'll be a very very happy man!!

[quote="Andrew G"]
1) SE SPOCO
2) SCCU BAR
3) 10 PB
4) 25 PB
5) 50 PB
6) 100 PB
.

1) FAILED largely due to the weather halting a couple of events for me. This meant I had to try and re-jig a couple, managed one but not the other which meant completion was impossible without cancelling other races or long drives, which I didn't want to do.
2) DONE
3) DONE
4) DONE
5) DONE
6) DONE
7) This was a secret one - Complete the National (ECCA) 12 hr TT. DONE Distance was a bit down on what I'd hoped for but that was due to 3.5-4hrs of rain to start with which I got fed up with. Once on to 2nd circuit and rain stopped I was bang on the schedule up to the end, lost all the distance at the start. Real target was completion though as with something like this that is a big enough target.

[quote="kieran"]for me my goals are:

Spot Toks in a race. (only joking - I need at least one achievable goal!)

do better than last year:

earn > 8 BC points in RR

plan of attack is to not use CP races to get race fit but to be race fit by the time they start so start gettinh points early in the series.

Hopefully hog hill will have come about to reduce pressure on CP.

other aims I have are more leisure based (e.g. do some mtb, track, sportives so as more leisure based I won't term them goals - more like 'plans for next year')

Let's see:

Saw Toks in a race! Not too many though ( a bit absent from CP this year?)
Got more than 8 BC points, 10 to be exact, so as I said to my family now that I got 3rd cat I can relax and turn to fat, as I can't go back to 4th no matter what I do or more importantly don't do.

Leisure goals -did one sportive and punctured 3 times on it so verdict out on that one for enjoyment.
no track or MTB (yet)

1. No... but...
2. After No. 1 I survived relatively unscathed!
3. Yes, but not quite. Have had a few very near misses mind, all down to experience.
4. Not quite, well, not even close really... next year then...
5. God knows what I was thinking with that one, not sure!
6. Well, 22ish... game on!
7. You must be joking.
8. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. Yep, had another fantastic ride to Paris. Meeting some extraordinary people, Ex T-Mobile Marketeers in full team kit on ex team bikes... Ex pro moutain bikers... wives of mercenaries locked up in Africa (Don't ask!) So yeah, an interesting ride! Not sure I'll do it again as raising the money proved much more difficult second time around... Which is a real shame. Thanks again to all those who did chip in. The deadline is on Monday so its not too late to donate!

Pretty close to ticking off the lot, and yes, I'm pretty happy. But it ain't over til the fat lady sings... Theres plenty more to come from me before I hang up the bike for a fortnight of drunken tomfoolery in October!

Oh, and theres always next year to do even more... Seriously, I just can't get enough of riding my bike. Bring it on!!!

[quote="Snoop Doug"]Come on then......let's 'ave it.

1 - PB in a 10 (again)
2 - PB in a 25 (again)
3 - PB in a 50 (again)
4 - PB in a 100 (again)
5 - SCCU BAR (again)
6 - PB in a 12hr
7 - Equal my PB of helping/marshalling at least four events (again)
8 - PB on the Bec CC Hill Climb (Again! Have I learnt nothing this year?)
9 - Keep the Yellow, Black & White flying over The Rawson Shield (team effort y'all)

He he, truth be told numbers 3,4,5 & 8 were all 1st time events for me this year so improvement on those is a MUST.

Snoop

1 - so nailed it 8)
2 - so nailed it 8)
3 - so nailed it 8)
4 - so nailed it 8)
5 - so nailed it 8)
6 - I said that!!! Nope - after my mid season unwellness there was no way this was gonna happen so I bottled it and went to Disneyland instead :D
7 - so nailed it 8)
8 - not yet happened, the race I mean, not the PB (which by the way I think I'll really struggle to achieve)
9 - 8) surely this is dans le sac :?:

I've had a weird year. PBd in every race I finished bar just one. The one and only event I didn't PB in also happened to be the one I enjoyed the most :? largely due to the fact that I rode it intelligently (yes honest) and finished all the way up there in mid table mediocrity, a place I could only dream about in 2007.

So - thanks to Toks (again) for getting me to write this down (where is that leading I wonder..?) and of course, thanks to richv without his help and advice I'd never have made such consistent improvements
