Multi-sporting

Postby Maria David » Tue Dec 07, 2004 10:46 pm

Hi Guys,

Just a quick note to let you know that I am the triathlon/duathlon co-ordinator for Addiscombe Cycling Club so will send to you any info I hear on triathlons and duathlons.

Anyway, the first thing I've done has been to affiliate Addiscombe Cycling Club for next year.

Basically if you intend doing Triathlons and duathlons next year you will need a British Triathlon Association Licence. Since we are affiliated you can therefore obtain a club membership licence and get reduced rate entries into races. When you have BTA membership you also get the magazine on a quarterly basis and automatic entry into the national triathlon league. You also get the chance to qualify, if you're fast enough, for the World Age Group duathlons and triathlons.

I am not sure who, in the club is interested in doing triathlons (swim/bike/run), duathlons (run/bike/run) or aquathlons (swim/run) so if you could let me know your interest I can add you to my mailing list when I send out any multi-sport bulletins.
I know this is a fairly quiet time of the year, but there are a few events taking place - mainly duathlons and also a triathlon on Christmas day (!) so I would be happy to let you know about these interesting events when I have your names.

Cheers,

Maria

At last, someone who can do the job!

I'm not saying the last guy was incompetent, but ...

I'm definitely interested in participating and helping out.

Cheers,

Racing Calendar

Postby Maria David » Tue Dec 21, 2004 2:30 pm

Cheers Dom, will put your name down.

On the subject of triathlon and duathlon races, and before you plan your racing diary, you might be interested to know about the various championship/ world age group qualifier races for 2005 :

FYI Distances are :
Triathlon : sprint - 750m swim/20km bike/5km run
standard/olympic - 1500m swim/40km bike/10km run
middle distance - 1900m swim/80-90km bike/20km run
relay champs - 500m swim/15km bike/5km run

Duathlon : 10km run/40km bike/5km run

I'm not sure of aquathlon distances, but it will be just swim and then run.
The event at Salford will be held in conjunction with a triathlon world cup event where lots of international elites will be present. Event takes place at Salford Quays in the shadow of Manchester's famous landmarks so there should be a lot of fanfare.

Age group champs are for amateur athletes - not elites, so if you are feeling on form there is nothing to lose by trying to qualify. They usually take squads of around 15 per 5-year age group band.

National Grand Prix ranking series works in the same way as the National Series in bike racing. In triathlon/duathlon everyone gets points depending on how far behind the winner they finish. You then get a ranking at the end of the season.

Rememeber, to qualify for championship races and to get a ranking you need to be a British Triathlon Association member.

Not sure - I know Marco was the one in touch with him. (Do you know anything about it Marco ?)

We could recontact him or another Total Immersion coach if there is the demand - otherwise a few Tri clubs around London have sessions that they open up to other triathletes. I am aware of current sessions at Putney Leisure Centre. Will let you know of other sessions.

Personally, I'm too much into dry land at the mo to do any swimming !

Alright, you win ! So Sunday was pretty boggy - but 'cross isn't always like that.

And at least glorious mud cools the blood and is good for the skin ! What does chlorine do ?
