Made the long trip north to Cumbria to ride the Wigan Wheelers event on the Levens course. This is the course on which RichV went under 20 minutes on two years ago, the day that Bradley Wiggins set a new competition record. The tandem record was also broken on this course a week or so ago. So the course has potential, and this was my attempt to snatch the 10 trophy from George's grasp.
Thought I'd left plenty of time to get there, but got held up by roadworks and crashes on the M6, so arrived with only an hour or so to go before my start time. Normally this is OK, but after a six hour drive I would have preferred a bit longer to recover and warm up. Still, got on, warmed up and raced. Bit of a breeze blowing but nothing too bad. Nice gentle downhill start, then pretty much pan-flat for the rest of the course, and a nice big roundabout at the turn.
Didn't really do the long trip justice with a 22:44, but made a weekend of it and did some great hillwalking on Sunday.
