Well I hope I didnt scare too many people off with the proposed route- but 6 of addiscombes finest met at the unearthly hour of 10, Dave F , Adam, Chris ,Lisa, Il capitano, and me. 2 thirds of the ride suffering over hospitality from the evening before- made a flatulent start to the ride- Adam showed me his latest trick of heel in bottle cage balancing act whilst crossing the A 23- impressive!
Headed out to box hill via Chipstead-tadworth-epsom downs- langley vale -then some quiet backroads that lisa and chris knew- superb big grin factor all the way to box hill.
I know box hill is fairly flat but I hit some heart rates that were truly impressive due to my cold so I proposed we give white down a miss(yeah yeah)
Bread pudding and a cup of whizz we were all up for an extended ride around Betchworth, Brockham, Gadbrook, Newdigate, Leigh , Reigate and home, on the last long drag I was really flagging and Dave f kindly pushed me up the hill(flat)- that guy is so strong( no I am not on the pull)
We have been very lucky with the weather for the last 7-8 days and I have managed to ride everyone, so thanks to all who have ridden with me and made getting some good winter miles in so easy(?)

Here ... Here

A fine day out, now I just need some more sleep and more food. Pehaps I can forget about the aches with some alcohol!

I think my thought of the day has to be when asking Dave if he wanted to stretch his legs on the way home, after Box Hill or whether he was OK to reign himself in a bit for us. (He apparently gave a bit of a pounding to those that travelled with him on Thursday), he asked why he has this reputation and is it really as bad when he is on the front. Not all the time, but when he goes for a gentle leg stretcher no one can get past his back wheel to tell him to slow, so to Dave, thanks for taking it easy today :D

Thanks also to all those that we saw or rode with over the break, and to Ian for knowing where were were going, Happy New Year to all and onwards into '05 ...

Thanks Ian. Great route. I was enjoying the scenery so much I forgot to look behind me now and again. Apologise Lisa. Believe it or not I was consciously trying to keep a steady pace.

Ian - please tell me how we got from Epsom to Box Hill. Following the map and can get as far as the junction with the Roman Road but have forgotten the rest.

I am off the bike now for approx 3 weeks until Mareks hilly day ride so you will all be able to get your own back!
Cheers

Dave-
From facing the roman road left
first left-walton road
ignore next left(sheep walk)
road splits into 2 take Hurst Lane
under motorway to end of road
turn left go uphill past the cock pub
on the brow of hill right-Leech Lane (Tot hill)
down thru the bends and just before the bottom of the hill left into Lodgebottom lane
all the way to end of the road -nice freewheel bit :D
Left at the end of the road- then left into the zig-zags
repeat twice- then rest.
3 weeks off the bike- did you fall off on the way home?!!

Having just read Ian's perfect directions (well I don't know if they are wrong?) I am beggining to think that Ian has a secret passion/obsession for knowing all the roads around
"The Three Feathers" public house of about a twenty mile rasdius. Or maybe he is a secret minicab driver. :D
But I do know (or so he say's) he was born and breed around here and therefore this is

The only things I know about Switzerland are good choccy, snow, alps, penknives and very poor beaches.
Have fun.
