Food safety- advice sought

Every year we buy a couple of non-recipient-specific presents. And usually we find we have forgotten Aunt Maud or Uncle Jeff. Quite what Uncle jeff does with a small basket of violet scented guest soaps at the old folks' home is anybody's guess..........but Mrs Golightly down the hall has a little smile she didn't have last time we came to visit...

Returning to the stuff we haven't found a home for, suitable or otherwise: there is a box of Amaretti Morbidi all'arancia which The Good Mr I and the slightly-less-good but much prettier Miss I have just liberated from Christmas wrapping paper. Carted home from TK Maxx in a job lot of NRSPs, it has no use-by or eat-by date on it, and to be honest I can't remember whether red paper was my choice for 2006 or 2005. Anyway, there's a chance they could be three years old.... the fact that they are called 'morbidi' might be a clue so if you don't see us on the Isle of Wight in 2 weeks' time, send a policeman round to break the door down..

Are they safe??? Anyone got an opinion? Survived a similar experiment??

You could break one in half and dip it in one of the fine armagnacs I don't doubt Mike insists on ensuring the manor is never without. If it soaks some up then it's probably not deadly and you can sit back and relax with your drink and biscuits.

Probably not a recommended taste test for Miss I though. The alternative would be to use a fine Italian espresso, but that would probably be wise to keep from Miss I's hands or you could be trying to catch her as she rebounds across the room.
