Aluminium Frame repair

Postby Rob C » Mon Sep 29, 2008 11:14 am

I've got a hole where the bottle cage fitting used to be on a aluminium bike frame.

Does anyone know a frame builder or LBS who might be able replace the cage fitting? Just spoke to bike+ and they didn't sound to hopeful. Roberts is closed for the day.

I've got the insert tool and all the inserts.

If the hole is not too big or damaged, you're more than welcome to pop round and I'll fit a new one for you.

PS Just read you've had it done, sorry for skimming thread

I'd be surprised if Roberts would have anything to do with an aluminium frame, on principle if nothing else. They're more likely to kick you out of the shop for bringing in that new fangled aluminium stuff. In fact I don't think they have even progressed to welding steel yet, they mainstay is still brazed frames. (They do make very nice steel frames though, there're just a bit set in their ways.)

You could just seal the hole with some tape and use a pair of Zefal Gizmo to hold the bottle cage.
