Club run 8/1/05 The Great WINDY ride

Postby Nick » Sat Jan 08, 2005 5:55 pm

What a day Thanks to the hard-core of
ADDISCOMBE RIDERS.
These riders braved the WIND AND GUSTS today. I decided at first not to go but at 8.30 changed my mind and thought see whos about so put the bike on car and drove to CSS. And had a good ride.

To those who went was it:-
a)Just a gentle breeze
b)Windy
c)blowing hard
d)Almost hurricane force at times

PS Conor I tried to call back but phone no. not avaliable? But now realised it was the wrong Conor I was calling. SORRY

I would give it a b. Was not that bad today, have been out in a lot worse. Went back over box hill which was a good idea as it was great as most of the hill had the wind behind us and the view was great at the top as it was pretty clear.

Cheers to the others who came over box.

a bit blowy... i tell you one thing - butlers certainly ensnared me with their 20% off sale sale... wasn't planning to go in at all but ended up with a pair of wheels, a helmet, a jersey, a hat, a pair of shorts, etc etc

just psychological compensation for being so unfit, though.

Elliot
Thats why I have stayed away from GB's as I Knew I wouldn't be able to resist temptation. And blow £££££££££'s on something I don't really need even though I may want!!!!!!!!!.
But now with all the new kit you have no reason not to go out or THEY would be a waste of money. :)

My question is how Elliot carried all that stuff.

Good club run today thought the wind was not as bad as yesterday. Had 2 punctures when our group went though some glass. Luckily Monty had a spare tube. Spent a good bit of time making sure there was not glass on the inside of the tyre. Meandered home and it was pretty easy as the wind was going the right way.

Time to try the mountain bike club run tomorrow ................

On Thursday on the way to Bromley I saw a huuuge tree that had fallen, probably blown down and had completely flattened a parked car. I think Friday was the worst day last week. Riding back home from London was a nightmare, it took me almost 45 minutes compared to about 37 usually. Great fast ride in the morning though.
I went to Butlers on Saturday for some leg warmers and left with a also a cool Campag jacket, Santini top and GO drink powder ... Met David there and he was buying loads too. Then went to Bik+ and got a £5 seatpost.
On Sunday Paul led Tamar and me to past Dial Post (what a name) and further, the wind was quite bad but not horrendous. It helped us a good deal on the way back though, we were cruising at 30mph in some places.

I would agree with sylv that friday was the worst of the week. I did the Club run on my own on Friday and was blown left, rifgt and centre. I had a round trip of over 80 miles and I would say 55-60 were into or side wind.

I am not sure about the Ventos, but I have a pair of Mavic Cosmos on my training bike and they seem to be pretty good.

Cheers
