[quote]What is it with winter bikes? All the above machines look pretty decent to my untutored eye, and as keen cyclists, you're all likely to give them a clean and lube after riding in the wet. Would not winter riding be more pleasant if done on the best bike? I sold my second road bike because after riding the best one I didn't enjoy riding it anywhere near as much. A bit of salt and rain won't hurt.
Indeed I agree that if you clean your best bike regularly and replace parts that are worn out or broken then stay on it for the winter.
The reason I'm using a winter bike is it's heavier and will be harder to ride uphills therefore when I start racing on my light carbon bike I should be flying.
It has mudguard clearance and eyes for all the wet weather riding so is more comfortable for me and everyone else around.
More flex with the steel frame so much more forgiving with potholes and bad roads.
If I bend or break it it's cheaper to replace
