How often should you change them?

Depends how often you change your chain. If you change the chain before it's completely knackered then your sprockets and rings will last longer.

If the teeth on the chainring are taking on a hook shape then they definitely need changing.

Or if airline baggage handlers manage to bend the outer ring then it's time to change it

should be rarely, used to be when they look like a shark fin or shark teeth and you could then just turn it round and use again until the other side of the teeth was worn down but with shaped teeth on the rings I don't think you're meant to do this. I would guess once they start affecting shifting or new chain skips.

i have changed the cassette and chain which are now fine, but wondered if chain rings needed to be changed at the same time, they dont look like sharks fins so all should be ok, thanks for the help, Sean and Snoop should know better
