Just got back from Hog hill for the 5th round of the London League CX.
Bit of bad news was that Mard Leedham slipped off his bike on the practice lap and popped his collarbone out which hopefully he's having done now at the A&E, he seemed to be in good spirits and not too much pain, wishing you a Quick recovery Mark.
Aoeden, Sylv and Maria were racing today around the Hainault forest country park just over the road from Hog Hill.
I was finally gridded for the first time today and made good use of this to get into the woods in 3rd position.
For the first couple of laps I was just sitting behind Brian from Corridori but he was going so slow through the woods, so on the next lap I attacked in the wooded section and pulled out an imediate gap, which I managed to increase during the race.
I really liked the woods and there was one bit where at full speed you could bunny hop off a log through a corner but when you landed you had a slipt second decision to make to go left or right round some nasty looking stumps, oooh so much adrenalin flowing there
Out of the woods we had 2 really long grassy legs with tough draggy climbs on both, here I managed to increase the gap some more and with a lap to go I knew I would stay away for the win.
Being the race leader is so cool as everyone is cheering you on and giving loads of encouragement, I even was able to blag a drink from one of the helpers by the pits.
on the last lap I just made sure I got round all the corners without falling off and crossed the finish line with arms aloft
At the flag Sylv had a very entertaining sprint with another rider which he maaged to win just got it by 2" Managed to pass Maria just before the chequred flag, she thank me afterwards cos she didn't have to do another lap.
Well chuffed as its my birthday today as well
