Hit by a car... again.

Ah dear, sometimes I have to laugh.

10.40 this moring and I'm making my merry way to uni on my shiny yellow fixie, when... bang!

The poor girl just didn't see me, pulls out, so over I go. Classic scenario, same as my earlier incident in Feb, and the same as what happened to Chloe. Hmm. What can we do?

I grabbed my bike headed for the pavement and sat down shaking my head. I simply could not believe I had been taken out for the second time in just nine months. Although to be fair it was clear the girl was in much more shock than I was, and her young son was not too impressed either.

Unfortunately I just caught my head as I landed, resulting in a reasonable blood flow down onto the side of my face. As a result one of the many bystanders called an ambulance for me, while what can only be described as an angelic lady sat down beside me and put her arm around me. The driver herself was in tears at this point, and I just said to her not to worry, afterall I'm getting used to it! And there was hardly any damage to her car at all anyway, but I do empathise with her.

After a while the ambulance came and off I went, and the afore mentioned angel took my bike for me as she liver just around the corner. A&E cleaned me up, gave me the spiel about head injuries and I was off on my way. Thankfully Met Police actually care about these things (Unlike Surrey Police as I found out in Feb), and they came to see me in Hospital having already caught up with a few witnesses and the driver. So all should be covered with regards replacing the now f****d front wheel etc.. Luckily apart from my head, and a degree of pain in my neck, there is hardly a scratch on the rest of me which is lucky. So I should be fine in a few days.

So there you go, ride safe!

Unlucky Adam, luckily your alright by the sound of things,
If she was in tears it goes to show that she didn't even see you when she pulled out

There needs to be an ad campaign on the telly or something alerting drivers to be more aware of cyclists, just like the motorcycle ones.
I think too many car drivers are just looking for another car and their brain doesn't compute when their eyes see a bicycle.

I had the same on saturday on my way to the club run but luckily I managed to stop. The thing that annoyed me about the guy who pulled out in front of me is he looked straight at me before deceiding there was enough time to pull out, how wrong was he  Gave him a right gobfull.

Glad your not badly hurt Adam. Its still a sh*te thing to happen though, whats wrong with these idiots. Its about time the law was changed and if a person is found guilty of causing this type of accident they should be hit with a fine and 3 points. No excuses. Might teach them a lesson hopefully.

basically, it's a war zone out there.
You have to assume that drivers will do the most unreasonable things and can't see you, even though they are looking right at you.

Glad you're ok.
Law should be brought in line with other EU countries where assumption of guilt rests with driver in ANY collision with a cyclist, pedestrian or horse. Common sense should put the higher duty of care on the bigger, more powerful vehicle that can do more damage. Result is far fewer accidents involving cyclists and cars.
Couple that with tougher and enforced penalties for RLJ-ing and jaywalking and an ad campaign like the hammer and peach of the 70s and we may get some progress.
Perhaps our car-hating PM could do something about this now he has saved us all from those evil greedy bankers.
And hey, let's be careful out there

Bloody Students. Three years I had that bike... not a scratch. THREE YEARS, and not just commuting either - proper long rides around Box hill. Three years and not a single incident.

Sold it to Adam and ten minutes later its in pieces. Its a cruel world I tell you

Oh, glad you're ok by the way :D

Hey Adam , glad you are ok .....I love the way you've written that . We all have to accept that genuine accidents do happen.

It's always sad to hear about an accident Huw but it wasn't your bike anymore, you have to learn to let go.

Glad you're okay and were well cared for Adam. Sounds like you quite enjoyed the angel care actually  , oh and I love the phrasing...

Sorry to hear about your accident Adam, I like the "I sould be fine in a few days" bit. Oh to be young again!

Get well soon, no excuse not to study though......

I have booked you in for a Grahame Wheel Building class Part III. As long as you don't take as long this time

All the best, Marky Mark

PS Don't forget the flowers and chocolates when you go to pick your bike up from that hottie angel.

well , you're still young so only a few more years until you develop ESP and are then able to avoid these.

You were lucky, in all my collisions no one has ever called an ambulance, even when I couldn't get up and walk due to damaged knee, my wife cam and picked me up. must be your good looks

Hope you are mended soon, Adam.

I don't know if it was an ACCer descending Sanderstead Hill at about 9pm yesterday evening who was involved is a similar and quite scarey near miss. I was queuing behind a car, both of us wanting to turn right out of Purley Downs Road on to Sanderstead Hill. There was a small amount of traffic on Sanderstead Hill preventing the car in front from turning immediately. And there was a cyclist coming downhill too! I'd spotted them, but I got the sense that the car in front hadn't. Sure enough when the traffic had cleared, the car in front pulled out right in the cyclists path. Fortunately the cyclist wasn't pushing on that hard and was on the brakes immediately and managed to slow enough to swerve behind the car. It was a close one....

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]Christ Adam, lucky escape. Though talk of Angels by your side and copious amounts of blood had me worried. There does seem to be one detail missing though, were you wearing a helmet?

Get well soon. Nothing broken i hope.

Sean

What do you think Sean?

It's a long shot, but helmets and fixies don't mix. So, I'd say a no.

All about being cool :D

Please guys...that is 100% irrelevant, I can't believe you're judging somebody who has just been involved in an accident that was in no way their fault..

Adam...make sure you check and double check your frame alignment before just claiming for your front wheel...forks can easily look ok to the eye but be completely out of alignment when they take a knock...just check it over before filing your claim...

Get well soon.
