Nice little evening turbo session

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Nice little evening turbo session

Postby huw williams » Wed Oct 15, 2008 12:12 pm

On the main part of the forum we love to read the ride reports.

For those who are actually involved in 'training' as opposed to just riding, session reports can be just as interesting and helpful, so don't be shy in posting your experiences here.

Maybe the esteemed Shadow would like to kick us off with his thoughts on a little session he did last night.

Steve...? You are still there aren't you Steve? :D :D :D

2hrs15mins this morning before work.

LBP-30 workout :-
1. Vary cadance from 90-115rpm.
2. Breathing exercises i.e diaphragm breathing through nose/mouth & nose only @ 16-18 breaths per min.
3. ISL

Tomorrow :-

1hr 15min @ 115rpm @ HR higher than 4ms (give cardio system a rest)

Nice post Huw, here we go then. I planned a 90 minute sweet spot session this morning at Regents Park. It only lasted 6 laps (av 45min). Gears 53/19/18 @ 90-94rpms. I got there at 7am and was still tired from a lack of sleep so I bagged the session half way and went home :(

1. To be more efficient at my prefered cadence and give the CNS a workout. Recruit different fibres. (I can do 120rpm for 2hrs @ LBP-20 but then respiratory sytem starts to get a workout).

2. To train my diaphragm so I'm more efficient at breathing. No one so far can match my breathing rates @ LBP-20 I have been practicing for 5 months now.

3. Isolated leg intervals to perfect technique. Yes I know the Coggan/Alex Simmons/Ric stern will say it's a load of tosh.

I've done 2 days in a row stressing the Cardio system and ownzone numbers are coming down so will ride @ a HR that is above 4ms to rest this system but will work on my CNS (Central nervous system).

It's good to try new ideas rather than just pluging away doing 2x20 at the same cadence & same intensity...That's just a maintenace workout.

I'm currently doing lots of high cadence workout 100-130rpm. I want to see how this affects my performance line and LBP. Then the next 8 weeks will ride at much lower cadences then retest to see results.

Have done 2hrs45 beginning of the year when racking up the time/miles for the FaCT Mallorca training camp.

You should see the groove on the turbo roller.

having now spent an hour & a half on a turbo I have entirely abanoned any thought of buying one.

its just plain horrible i'd rather be roading on the road no matter how dark, wet or cold it is.

rode round the chain gang route last nite @ LBP-20. took two&one-half hours from work to home.

Flew round the flat bits @ 24MPH-bit slower on the way back from horley @ about 18mph & dropeed down to about 15 mph up the merstham drag.

its quite an intriguing level to ride @ because you can feel your body is being stressed but simultaneoulsy you feel like you could continue @ that level forever. It was quite pleasant all in all

However if it does no good in the long run-Rob&Huw-remember I now know were u both live

2. To train my diaphragm so I'm more efficient at breathing. No one so far can match my breathing rates @ LBP-20 I have been practicing for 5 months now. Nice, but what will it do for sustainable power

3. Isolated leg intervals to perfect technique. Yes I know the Coggan/Alex Simmons/Ric stern will say it's a load of tosh.
You said it! Unless you're gonna go on one legged training rides or do one legged races why bother

I've done 2 days in a row stressing the Cardio system and ownzone numbers are coming down so will ride @ a HR that is above 4ms to rest this system but will work on my CNS (Central nervous system).Lovely, are you faster or putting out more power or not

It's good to try new ideas rather than just pluging away doing 2x20 at the same cadence & same intensityIts all Specificity specificity specificity. I don't train at cadences of 120-130BPM's cause quite suprisingly I never race at those cadences
