Club Run Report 11th Oct OFF-ROAD

Postby Marky Mark » Sun Oct 12, 2008 8:13 pm

Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4, Phase 5

Phase 1..... CR off-road with no broken bones. 8)

Phase 2..... CR return by road on mountain bike.

Phase 3..... Jet wash bike and car on Saturday afternoon.

Phase 4..... Mountain bike 12 miles around Bewl Water on Sunday with no broken bones this time. :D

Phase 5..... Clean bikes and cars on Sunday.

Phase 1. Passed. :D
Aedan and Maria closely followed by Marky Mark (the three amigos). Let me know if i got your names wrong, it's happened before and it'll happen again.
The route is to die for, Maria on a cross bike so it can't be that bad can it, she rode out of her boots. You lot (ACC'ers and me included) out there really do need to take advantage of a day out that Aedan has obviously taken a long time to map and check out a stonking route for us easy road runners!
How can I say it... Well, we absolutely went everywhere, up hill, down dale, up road, down road, up hilly sand bank, down muddy tram lines, through muddy bog, here there and everyhere, through the Surrey countryside. Not for the faint hearted in places, but I survived and I had the odd thought of "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god" I'm going to die, stupid me  , if Eaden can do it, well so can I, sharp intake of breath and salt thrown over ones shoulder. As I told Aedan to his face, he is now known as INSANE AEDAN, for the pure bravery and fearless downhill speed into what could be the unknown. I was told it was the only North to South route, Garmin kept telling me the we were either heading E, W, or NW, somebody was telling porkies

Phase 2. Passed :D
Got a verbal reprimand from Joyce the boss for having a dirty bike, even Keith backed her up on that one. Sorry and it will never happen again, until next week of course.
Don't try this at home kids! Super smiley JohnC tried to stick me up front of the group and drag everybody home on my mountain bike..... Well dream on Sir, that was never gonna happen  , even though you aked me twice. Riding a mountain bike on a CR is only for superman and stupidman, I'm glad my motivational skills kept you going and gave you that little push you needed in the drags.
I also nearly managed to keep up with George riding one legged up hills, so funny.   Thanks for the hand you pervert.
Aedan left before I had a chance to say thank you, so thank you sir.
Nice to see newbie Andrew on his second CR, nice to see he shut his eyes on the accident black spot! known as Andrews curve

Phase 3. Failed
Could not be bothered, tin of beer and dinner

Phase 4 Passed :P
All bones intact and the mountain bike bug has bitten on this stunning weekend. Human body has survived the biking weekend................. But................... Halfords mountain bike has a few scares.
Bottom bracket..... knackered.
Front shocks..... knackered.
Rear Mech..... knackered.
Headset..... Knackered.
Legs..... Cut to bits.
All-in-all..... I LOVED IT

Phase 5. Failed :?
Could not be bothered, lovely 2 days, why spoil it?
Bottle of beer or 2 and dinner.

WEEKEND......DONE

Sounds good Mark, and another new spelling of his name for you're esteemed leader  .

Think I'll join this enjoyable jaunt next week if it's on :D . Better stick some new tubes in and throw some oil at the MTB (It's a retro one  ).

Great report Mark, well done for the enthusiasm and the leap into the unknown. I hope it wasn't too much, I know I was feeling it on the way back and was glad on John Cz keeping the pace of the group to something manageable for a mountain bike.

It was curious coincidence that your in-laws used to live backing onto that last strectch of track by the river Mole

Sorry I dropped off the back without a trace on the return trip. A friend of mine has just bought a new house near the church at the back of Redhill and I had said I would drop in. I forgot completly until I was actually passing it.

PS. Just to clear up the spelling of my first name, it's Aodan but I don't mind a bit of creative phonetics seeing as those letters don't get used together in the English language.

Hi - just registered myself so this is my first post ( as distinct from last Post which could well have been playing after my first CR the week before last...the fact that my first 17mph experience was over the top of the handlebars may at least place me in rare company). Thanks though to those including MarkyMark who looked after me and managed to reassemble my arm afterwards.

Like the sound of the mountian bike route Mark...

After two fairly easy fun runs I reckon on trying to tag onto a 16 or 17mph this weekend - John Cz tells me this is a completely different proposition and so I hope I have digested the route...

very impressed with the club so far - after buying my first bike since the cow horned handlebar I owned at 15 ( and Im 40 tomorrow) I didnt really know what to expect...everyone I have spoken to has been pretty friendly and ready to offer advice to the novice...which is much appreciated.

You are more than welcome andrewf(flying?). Your pilots liceince is in the post, it should land on your door mat anyday now. Chocks away!

I'm still in 2 minds about the CR on Saturday. :?

Do the CR on-road : Will really miss the mountain bike section if I do.

Do the CR off-road : Will probably break the bike, it still has a mood on from last week

I will probably flip a coin on Friday night!

Happy Birthday to flying Andrew.
You are now in the cycling catagory of 'Veteran' old man.

You are only too kind!

I now have a bike computer ( and it only took me an hour to set up with the requisite nanomillimetre gap between sensor and magnet :D ) so will now be fully exposed to the mediocrity of my performance this weekend....

See you either in Coulsdon or the halfway house if you decide to go on the MB
