[quote="Grahame"][quote="huw williams"]The boys on MBR magazine say you want a Hutchinson Toro - as its just won the best winter tyre award in their group test for the second year running

But they are the same people who said that you need 21 speed transmission and 4 inches of suspension at each end of a cross country race bike to be competitive in an endurance race - exactly 1 month before being beaten by a lap by my team on singlespeed hardtails at Mountain Mayhem

21 gears! Whatever next

Oops, must stop posting before rushing off to a lecture.

27, not 21 was their minimum requirement!

Well I got the Panaracers, just fitted them and realised how bald the old rear one was. Sylv they do look a bit loud with the big red stripe around the side but I'm sure that'll get covered in dirt soon enough. The slightly narrower ones look like they'll be alright for CX too, the old ones were a bit fat when it was boggy.

The warhorse has 24 gears by the way, well 8 sprockets but I expect there is some cross over in ratios.

Still not upgraded the forks to the Bombers which will have to wait until I've got a bit more cash. Next on the list is a shorter stem to make the steering more direct as it's a bit long at the mo (easy at the back!).

Have you tried ebay for these? The Z2 Atom Bomb Marzocchis are excellent, infinitely seviceable and probably go for less than 50 quid now. They were standard issue on 1600 quid bikes in early 2000s. Fantastic quality as you'd expect from a firm that's been making forks for 60 years. I swapped mine after four years to Marathon S, another great coil fork.
