Saddle sore

Postby Stu Merckx Man » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:14 am

i've had my fair share of saddle sores, but never this bad! im having to brace myself everytime i get in or out the saddle, and every bump in the road is agony! on more than one occasion ive had tears in my eyes!!

ive always smothered the pads of my shorts and my gonads in vasaeline, and usually thats been enough. however i took 2 weeks off 2 weeks ago, which i suppose must have softened my rump a bit, and the last 2 weeks ive been doing a lot of hours in the saddle, thats given it a right pounding.

so ive started puting on sudicream before i go for rides, and after as well to try and clear it up.

so my question is, what other tricks/home remedies do people use/have?

cheers
stu

Have a look at this link

http://www.teamjudson.com/articles/sores.htm

Some stranger bits of advice !!

Strip quick. After a ride, get out of your sweaty, germy shorts as soon as possible. The environment down there breeds bacteria and encourages them to enter abraded skin. Then shower or clean up with soap and water. Dry well and put on loose-fitting clothing that allows your skin to breathe. For underwear, try boxer shorts. The tight leg bands of briefs cut across the junction of your glutes and hamstrings, right where many saddle sores develop. -

Note if you want to do this, we sure to warn the staff in the caf..

Sleep in the buff. It keeps your crotch dry and free of clothing contact for as long as you're in bed

Have a donut. In the foot-care section of drug stores, you'll find donut-shaped foam pads in several diameters. They're made for corns but can help you ride more comfortably with a saddle sore, too. Simply place it with the sore in the center of the cutout to relieve direct pressure. The adhesive backing will keep it in place.

I read this just as we were putting in our order at the chippy - and someone pointed out that they haven't had a battered sausage for ages

Are you getting into the bath/shower staright after a ride? Or are you still wearing them for a while in house?

Best to get them off asap and get showered/bathed asap to cut down on bacteria issues down below.

Stu mate why not take 2/3 days off till it settle down to a more comfortable stage. And a Cyclocross race not gonna help things  . I've found any kind of insect/spot/rash type creams really help. Sudo cream is far too messy and never really helped. Good luck :D

Stu are you sure that's not just down to Nicholas, your gay lover, rather than saddle sore?

Do the cyclo cross race and beat it in to submission  .

Remind me never to seek medical advice from George or Kieran  , George will want to slap your arse with a paddle while Kieran gets out his half round bastard!

Hey Stu, sorry to hear about that :( but well done for sharing that. Forget all the usual "lads" comments, you have got some great advice from Graham and in the spirit of openness of this great club of ours, for me it's Clinique M Lotion :D (it's not about the bike) and the boxers must be silk :D , forget cotton. Put it on the Christmass list.

Best of luck and ride on.

See you all tomorrow.
