START RACING TALK IN THE HALF N' HALF

Postby Andrew G » Sat Oct 18, 2008 12:32 am

Okee dokee folks, following the poll which had 17 yeses I've booked the Half n' Half for 8pm on Thursday 27th November for a talk on starting to race. It would be good to have a nice turnout off the back of the Club TTs and Road Race Championships and add to the club members who are showing their colours to the wider World :D . Speaking as an average Joe racing is good fun and a great way to further your cycling.

To cover...

Road Racing - The basics
How do I start? What do I need? Where and when would be a good place to start (circuits/series)? How do I enter? Race day prep and what do I do at HQ?

Time Trialling - The basics
How do I start? What do I need? Where and when would be a good place to start (courses/races)? How do I enter? Race day prep and what do I do at HQ?

Hope to see a good few ACCers there, if not for the talks for the beer :D .

Your esteemed club secretaries have agreed to provide muchos useful information for your benefit, so if you want to try some Open TTs or try some road racing then you need to be here. The winter series road races and the local Open TTs will be covered so you'll know you can turn up and know what to expect and what you need to do.

In fairness the chances of me keeping quiet for a whole evening are pretty slim though  .

Hmmm, never thought of that - wonder if they'd let us set the turbos up down there? :D

A whole evening? How about 20 minutes? And how long before you start throwing drinks over us this time?
I'm wearing my waterproof to this :D

Sorry, knew I'd forgotten something. The Half n' Half is in South Croydon near GBs. If you head over the crossroads towards central Croydon then it is on you left. It's about a two minute walk from GBs.

http://www.halfandhalf.uk.com/ has a map on it. It's downstairs that is reserved, so after collecting your beverage from the bar head to the back and down the stairs in the corner.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Er, I'd take a lock. Doubt you could take it in, it is a nice bar, but Sylv had his bike out the back the other day by the emergency exit locked to a railing. I wouldn't recommend turning up en-mass on bikes but the odd one locked up outside would probably be okay, so long as the emergency exit wasn't blocked in any way. Worth calling and checking if you want to ride and not just use a lamp post outside.

Have you booked the room for this? I could pop in and do it if you like (on a weeknight, when IPC staff get 10% discount) :D

I wouldn't believe a word of what that Williams say's! He even sold me a fixed with the sprockett cross threaded meaning it would only be a matter of time before it stripped the thread on the hub!! While I was riding it too, attempting to cross the busiest section of my commute!!!

Cheers mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could a sprockett possibly have gotten cross threaded in a crash!? Besides, that was a month ago!

I guess if you did have the sprockett on right, it must mean I'm just putting too much power down through the poor thing...
