Can anyone recommend a decent cycle maintenance course?

Nope, but I can recommend the following book, I have built a few bikes using this, last two have not fallen apart so its pretty good.

i also recommend using books.

using a book, i built a bike up 3 weeks ago and its still working! and i had almost no idea how it all worked....it looks like a daunting task at first, but its actually pretty easy!

I have done several bike maintenance talks at the clubroom and don't mind doing another if enough people would come along???

Unfortunately I missed your talks and would endeavour to come along if you have the time to do another one or two.

I`m pretty hopeless at all but the basics. Things like changing cassettes, bottom brackets and headsets would interest me.

Lambeth Cyclists run a series of basic cycle maintenance courses for LCC members over the winter. Simon from Brixton Cycles is taking them, and apparently they're quite popular, with people joining LCC just to get onto them - wow! Preference is also given to people living and/or working in Lambeth.

OK, you don't get the Guru, but if Brixton Road is handier for you on a Tuesday night (five of them, 6.30-8.30), this might be worth considering. If you're interested, let me know and I'll PM you the details.

I would recommend Zinn anyway as it's always a useful reference point.
Your session with PVT will teach you a lot, and it's always easier seeing something in the flesh but if you look [url=http://www.addiscombe.org/members/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7121]here[/url] then you may find something that helps - the Park tools site is handy with good pictures. Manufacturer's sites also have useful downloads for fitting and adjusting their kit, well the Campag one does anyway .
