Big MTB ride Leith Hill - Sunday 7th Dec

Postby Sylv » Sun Oct 26, 2008 10:44 pm

There's a break in the cx racing calendar so I'm gonna propose a ride for next Sunday.

This will not be a training ride so all welcome - but best start with the Saturday café ride if you've never been off-road as the terrain can be challenging and the ride longer. Fantastic trails though!

Provisional plan would be to either meet up at Westcott (10 min ride from Dorking) or Peaslake (a bit further) at 10am.

I'm gonna need some help there in the form of people who can navigate their way in the area - if they haven't seen this I will email them.

If you are interested please post here - I'm sure between us we can sort out car lifts (I for one will be driving).

If the temperature dips below 5 degrees there will be mulled wine and mincepies to get us going

Here's what it looked like last year at about this time ...

Elliott - as you are the only one so far who might have been coming - do you mind if we postponed this to December?

There are a number of people who have said here or by email that they could not make it this weekend, so to give people a bit of planning time, I'm gonna propose Sunday 7th Dec (there will definitely be mulled wine then!!). Even though I've been there a fair few times the Leith Hill trail network is still a bloody maze to me so I would rather not be "leading" a ride there.

There will still be a mtb ride this Sunday, leaving East Croydon train station at 10am as usual. This will be the infamous Wall of Death Loop which is just over 25miles.

No prob. Will is of course the wayfinding guru but I haven't yet managed to capture his knowledge into my Garmin...

If you lend me your Garmin I'll download some brainwaves to it (as well as plot my journey into work, and laps of the park, so I can fine tune my performance!)

I'll aim to join the 7th Dec ride :)

Count me in for the 7th.

Forget the Garmin, I know all the best trails around Leith Hill, Pitch Hill, Holmbury Hill and Winterfold. If the weather is bad then best to avoid Leith hill and concentrate on Pitch and Winterfold
