Race starting points 1948 style

Postby Nick » Thu Jan 27, 2005 5:40 pm

Having been to Club room last night I had the privalage of looking at a Time Trial stating list from 1948.

The starting point was at Sanderstone Hill Oppisite LAMP POST NO1449 :? and the turning point was the FOURTH TREE  down wherever(can't remember sorry) but Back then not only did you have to worry about all the other riding stuff you also had to count trees so you didn't miss the U TURN :? ....how things have changed :D for the better I think.

It hasn't changed that much. TT course descriptions often still refer to features such as kerbstones, gratings, lamposts and signposts for the start and finish points, although thankfully they now usually turn at a roundabout rather than doing a dead turn in the road next to tree number four.
