Cycling Shop Credit Card Fraud

Postby Marek » Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:41 pm

I received this email today from someone at EGCC:

Today I was contacted by my bank regarding someone trying to obtain a replacement credit card in my name, luckily my bank spotted this and automatically cancelled it. Having spoken to the bank it transpires that Ribble Cycles has been compromised and CC and personal details obtained. If you have ever used Ribble Cycles you may wish to contact your bank to let them know.

Also, I myself today noticed that I have been cloned, I have had a number of transactions take place on my card over the last few days for quite significant sums. This may or may not be to do with the above, but if you have used Ribble in the past you may want to keep a close eye on your account.

Cheers

Marek.....

That doesn't look a bit like Marek... oh wait though, yes, yes, I can see it now :D

On a more serious note - thanks for the warning Marek - wasn't there another story in the recent past about Ribble being involved in a credit card scam? Makes you wonder who's processing their orders

The other recent credit card scare story I can recall was with Wiggle.

My Bank had to cancel my Card recently because of loads of dodgy transactions and I have used Ribble recently.

Me too. My identity was stolen 2 weeks ago, and I've used Ribble a few times in the last couple of months.

Wiggle had their credit card database hacked in to Jane, and sounds like Ribble has had the same problem now. Wiggle tightened up their security as I result I think. If it's a credit card you should be okay as they generally come with some form of protection, I'd never use a debit card online.

I'm pretty sure that was one of the measures they put in so that they could try and win back some lost confidence with people who still didn't want to store their data with Wiggle.

Haven't bought from either Wiggle or Ribble for a couple of years. I don't think I would use either of them again now regardless of their good offers. :(
