Off Road rides - Next on 8 Nov

Postby higg » Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:41 am

Next off-road club run is next Saturday from Cousldon at 8.30 on the Charlwood via Horne/Outwood route.

Please post if interested in this ride so I have an idea of numbers to expect.

(There may also be an alterantive ride to Mr PvT house in Horsham for the more adventerous, this would be approx 3-4 hours out to Horsham taking in a good stretch of the North Downs Way to Newlands Corner before heading south then onto the Downs Link. About 2 hours or train back. (Just an idea yet, see seperate post titled "Open House" by PvT.)

Upcoming dates of Off-road rides

8 Nov "Charlwood via Horne/Outwood".
6 Dec "Charlwood via Horne/Outwood".
7 Dec Leith Hill ride (see Sylv's post for details)
13 or 20 Dec "Charlwood via Horne/Outwood".

Details of the "Charlwood via Horne/Outwood".

The paths are a mixture of bridleways and quiet roads and are mostly easy if a little bumpy in one ot two places. Any bike will do but a mountain bike would be the most comfortable. Bear in mind that the return from the cafe will be by road.

Footwear. Anything apart from Looks would be good. Depending on the weather there are is only about 10yds of mud and one 20yd hill that might need to be walked. I'll be using SPD but runners with flat pedals and/or straps are not unusual.

Pace. This is more a leisure ride than a training level ride and the intention is that everybody who starts gets to the cafe. (There are many bail-out point to roads though for any last minute changes of mind). Overall pace is that of the slowest. We will wait at the top of hills etc. Distance is about 30k to the cafe (equiv to about 30miles on road) and will probably take 2-3 hrs to get cafe.

Start time. 8.30 from Coulsdon South Station, maybe meet a few minutes earlier to say hello.

Hi all,

I think I've recovered enough from my first attempt to join you again, although I think the train rather than the road group will be my route back. Put me down for the 8th, see you then.

There is a stretch of bridleway but I think the route to Horsham would be mostly "low-traffic" rather than "off-road".

Good to see you back Colin, I'm glad the previous trip didn't put you off.

I'm interested too, but given its shockingly early start I can't tell if I will make it until I get there so if I don't turn up on time don't wait around for me.

Okay, I rode to Charlwood and back yesterday on my shiny new fixie (now dirtier than my MTB!), so I'll join you on the Off-Road clubrun tomorrow. May go on to guru P's afterwards.

Yes, the idea was to do a dry one, but it turned out to be quite wet at least on the way out!

No problem I'll wait, might be sheltering in the station though.
