Sunday ride.

I'll be out on Sunday if anyone fancies a run out with me (weather forecast is dry at the mo). Can come down to GBs for a 9.30 start to meet if any takers so post to let me know or I won't bother making the trip down there.

Probably going to do my loop out to, and along, Pilgrims Way and then up Polhill and back via Shire Lane. Be about 40 odd miles at a steady winter pace (I'm sure you must know what I mean by that by now - I'll be on fixed). Can be extended if extra miles are desired and it's a nice day, I'll decide on the day for myself but if I do and someone doesn't want to then I can point them back on a shorter route.

Thanks for the company today folks, I had a nice ride. Probably about 40 miles for most by the time we all got home, I'd have liked to hang a left at the top of the hill at the end of Shire Lane and do some extra miles through Downe and back via Tatsfield rather than drop straight back down to Coney Hall but had to get back as I said I'd put up some curtain rails for my parents.

Started out with 4 on fixed and 4 on gears but 2 of the geared party had to turn back earlier on in the ride so we had a nice 2:1 ratio in the fixed wheel's favour at the end . I upped my gear to 72" towards the end of spring but think I'll drop it back to 69" for the main lump of winter as the last couple of days the wind has made it a bit heavy going at times riding head on in to it.

I tried a ride with SWRC, beginning at Cobham then we went to Wisborough Green via Sheer and a few hills, back along Wear Street and some super views of Autumn leaves, 60 Miles in all and 3 bouts of rain. Nice group of about 12 including one tandem but by the end only 6 remained.

Nearly 50 miles for me having ridden up from Horley to make it to GBs just in time.

Impressive riding by our fixed wheel contingent as they ground up the hills for the pleasure of thrashing their legs round as we descended!

Nice ride out from Croydon up to Selsdon and then through the lanes before coming out on the road to Titsey Hill, left out towards Westerham but staying on the Pilgrims Way. Nice bit of white water rafting as we rode in file through a small lake that had formed across the road. I split at the bottom of the hill and turned to Sundridge while the 4 fixies and 2 remaining geared bikes headed off to Polhill.

Rode home into a South Westerly headwind via Westerham, down through Hurst Green and back along the A22 before turning to Smallfield and back home. Got caught in the rain about 2 miles out and hid in a bus shelter like a big girls blouse! MInd you, I think I'd earned that after the drenching on yesterday's club run.

High point? Probably everyone sprinting down the road between Selsdon and Addington trying to trigger the speed check for the 30mph limit. Rather glad I missed Sylv "squirting white liquid out of his nozzle at Ben". Sounds a bit pervy!

I clocked 35mph as a max on my bike computer. The crazy legs crane spin down Botley is a bit manic as the descent's quite long to be spinning your legs round at 28-30mph. No fancy cadence measurer on my computer but I'm sure someone clever can work out the rpm for those speeds, I just know it felt bloody fast.

A very agreeable ride yesterday, and my longest ride on fixed by some margin as my usual fixed gear ride is in to work (10 miles each way).

Andrew, 35mph on a 72" gear would be 167rpm. I topped out at 31.1mph down Botley hill, which is 148rpm.

Exciting moment of the day - just after the flooded bit I was a little way off the front of the group and sitting up taking a drink, when two deer jumped out of the hedge on the left, bounded across the road in front of me and into the hedge on the other side. If I'd been a bit quicker it could have been venison for Sunday dinner.
