Panasonic do a 150 inch Plasma TV if you've got a spare 50 grand to spend.

Apparantly (the bloke in Richer Sounds) Sony's have come down in price of late as they have fallen behind the other manufacturers. If they will give you everything you want and / or need then it could be a good way to get a bargain, otherwise worth bearing in mind that the one you buy may be even further behind others in a year or two.

LG should be considered. Not a snob brand but they make a lot of the internals for the others which just have different cases nailed on them.

Richer Sounds do a fairly good selection and I've always found they are helpful, pretty knowledgeable, and don't tend to lead you up the garden like some retailers do. They also have a load all on the wall side by side so you can compare the pictures as you may prefer one to another just on personal preference.

Why wait until the New Year? If you've been a good boy and ask me nicely you might get a big surprise in your stocking on Christmas morning.

Go to a shop, John Lewis or Richer Sounds with loads on display and take a favourite dvd with you that they can play on the tellys you're considering (a proper film and not those TdF dvds with a dodgy feed from a chopper that all look like they've been recorded at home tape-to-tape).
You need to be happy with the picture quality as a good CRT telly can still look better than a LCD. Consider JVC also and make sure you get enough scart sockets, built in Freeview tuner and HD ready. Hold out for big reductions after xmas when the credit crunch really starts to bite. Prices are falling faster than a block of one bedroom buy-to-lets in Luton.
