Indeed. I'm no fan of war meself, and we have a 2 minute silence at 11am on 11/11 which I choose to respect.

I have visited Vimy Ridge several times http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Vimy_Ridge site of some brutal fighting. Part of the trenches remain. Well worth a visit, and the memorial to the 66,000 Canadian war dead is one of the most humbling and tear jerking things I've ever had the privilege to see first hand. It is awesome, so so sad. When ever I go there it's pi55ing down, seems so apt.

The lady in the statue is Mother Canada, grieving. I'm in tears sitting here just thinking about it again, I must get back for another visit soon.

I always have my 2 mins and use the time to think of my great grandad. He was a captain in the army. He was one of the first of the allied troops to walk through the gates of Belsen concentration camp and saw the horror and witnessed first hand the sensless waste of life. He never really spoke about it but one thing he would say is he would 'never get the smell of that living hell out of his system'.

Its due to men like my great grandad and countless thousands of others like him that stood up and did their duty that allows us to live how we do today. Thank you.

One of our employees plays the bugle, and we had the "last post" piped round the office at 11:00am - very poignant.

It was really annoying that a group of women deceided to carry on their conversation and laugh at high volume during those 2 minutes.
