My first clubrun for months and months. I thought the schedule was arrive at 9, first group leaves at 9.10 and last group leaves at 9.30, so was a bit surprised that the 18s group didn't roll out until 9.37. Surely the point of having a timetable for each group to leave is so people can arrive at the right time for their group and leave promptly without having loads of people standing around getting cold and clogging up the road outside the station?

Anyway, a good ride out with the 18s. I used the cunning plan of nipping off the back and down Partridge Lane to ensure I arrived at the cafe first, and managed to get in and out of the loo and get served before the masses arrived.

Rolled away in group of 5 towards Box Hill, which soon swelled to 7, but then we lost Mr  along the way. I was thinking I might regret going up Box Hill on a 72" fixie, but it was pretty good and I was second of our group to the top. Re-grouped there and had an agreeable ride back down Chipstead.

65 miles; 3 hour 45 mins riding, 1 hour 45 mins faffing.

I had such a good run on Saturday morning, my plan was to do the first half of the run at LBP-20 then have a blast riding home for the second half. Rode out with Michelle, Lisa and Apples after deciding before the start to set off on our own little splinter-cell, very pleasant ride indeed full of the usual giggles and banter. Nice not having to worry if we were holding anybody up or riding too fast down hill, we all seemed to stay together so well but I did feel we were holding Apples back. All in all a super friendly ride, shame you couldn't of joined us Rob and I hope you are feeling better now.

I was waiting in the queue for cafe with my friend Rick who rode down with the 17's. We stood there for ages with no sign of the queue actually going down, so Rick and I decided to get a drink and snack from the shop next door then ride back together. Had to get drink because I had forgotten to bring any.... Derrrrrrrr.

Had a blast riding home, poor old Rick had trouble keeping up with me. Done the first section with another 2 others riders (Paul and 1 other) super fast pace, loved it. But I noticed we had dropped Rick so I stopped to wait for him, maybe the 17's ride had drained him.

I loved every minute of Saturday, bring on more of them :D :D

[quote="Sylv"]Paul got a puncture on the scary downhill after the golf course, so we all carried on leaving him to mend it. No of course we didn't, we stopped and Keith even offered him some help.

[quote="Sylv"]About the late start - agree it was bad. I guess it's all driven by the time the training group leaves, so next time will endeavour to get it sorted at 9.15 even if the VC hasn't.

I think Saturday was a bit of a one-off, and I wouldn't say it was led by the TG departure at all. I've found it tends to be pretty good to the schedule for a while and gradually slips until you get a week like Saturday, then everyone gets a bit of a wake-up and things get a bit better again.

Paul, did you do the CR with or without the clutch engaged? I had to move your bike at the cafe and noticed, amongst all the insulating taped up lights etc  , they were locked. I'd have thought a TG with them independant would be a bit of a sod.

The club run starting late was good for me as I was late, and then went with the 19s so not too much hanging around. Like Alan I like an easier start, with a big group the elastic effect has you sprinting then braking and the legs don't want to play straight away. Not that they did when it came to the sprint for Charlwood, starting right from the back I never did make it to Adam's or Steve's wheel, but grabbed the final podium place which was the best I could do without a perfect lead out, on 52 x 14 there was no way I would get past their powerful sprints, a long-time since I could produce over 1200w which Steve had on his read out. Great ride and plenty of food for thought to get training for next year! The run back was fun as well, until a gap opened and I left it to long to close, hard work getting to Steve's back wheel and then leaving him to close the rest of the gap, as I was shoot, but we just made it, only problem was I suffered the rest of the way trying to recover! Now what's that about keeping your heart rate low!

[quote]Another classic honeberg vs factberg in the training group

Sylv has been very strong for the last few weeks. Then again he always has been which is why - well lets not go there.

I lock them out for the TG as I would never be able to keep up. I just use them for extra weight to lead Factberg into a false sense of security. I might come out on one of your Sunday sessions with them if thats ok.

Thanks to all the delusioned Pros for stopping for my puncture and ruining their chances in the Coulsdon-Charlwood World Cup.

That's reminded me - does anyone know if Angie and friend got their bikes unlocked? (it's that lesson everyone learns: never get a lock that doesn't need the key to lock it - that way you'll never lock it and discover you've left the key at home  )

Of course it's okay, I'd be interested in seeing them at work close up as they're about the only bit of tech kit that I've ever been interested in. Bit too steep for me at the mo though, and then I'd have to justify them by actually doing some training  .

I did think the cranks would be a bit tricky on a TG CR with the pace changes and the like if not the speed, but after seeing a Pearson's chap do the Hell of Ashdown on them last year (at a fair ol' lick) I don't think anything would surprise me.

The extra weight eh, that's nice and old school of you :D , I use the rack on my winter bike for that  .

It's also a (non-lightweight) steel frame with a dynamo hub and 36 spoke wheels Adam :D .

I've been putting my extra training weight on me so that no-one actually notices it Paul
Soon it will be time to shed it off (he says eating Mandorla biscuits)...

I've been doing the same, once I lose this extra stone and a half I put on I'll be flying...well maybe not flying but going a little faster than I do now.

Yep, Power cranks that have a clutch in them so they work independently - but you can lock them out to use them normally.

oh! very fancy, also being a bit slow I just realised where honeberg came from. I joined the greenberg camp and used my track bike on the club run, although the only fixed without mudguards (In total I made it five on fixed - me, Andrew, Mark, Jon and Phil). I had a nice ride out and no problem with the hills. A quick bit at the cafe and then home with Ben, Grahame and John. Thanks to the fixed track gear (80") I had no real trouble keeping up with Ben and Grahame near the end for the sprint down hill into Coulsdon. Back by 1pm so nice and quick today.
