Better still, open the rear passenger door, get in and give the driver a "Carlo Rizzi"

Sorry to hear about these events guys!

Glad everyones ok tho.

Following on from my knock; (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7266&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=mayday) they admitted full liability last week and they have now been sent all my expenses... hopefully i will get something for my pain and suffering too.

I am so glad some of my first posts were about insurance as mine has been well used!

The met police have been useless tho, but there we go, same old story.

I now commute to a different place (was doing coulsdon to west wickham) but now going to sutton, so thats got its dangerous bits, like the road up the side of banstead woods in the pitchblack dark, or the A217 mad mile at any time... or the buses and junctions from the 217 into sutton, but nothign quite as fraught as croydon town centre hehe!

However its too cold to wear my ACC top, so i am in my Campag winter ipod jacket!... undercover ACC! ;)

I've always wanted to pull that out as I've been riding alongside a bus

Don't worry, not another "man down", just an update on my last vehicular assisted dismount.

I've received a letter from Surrey Police. Its content is exactly as expected.

If you're cycling down a straight road, in broad daylight, wearing bright reflective clothing and you get knocked off your bike by a car that, whilst still overtaking you, decides to turn left with no warning, this is the level of justice you can expect:

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing with reference to the collision in which you were involved on 17:00 hrs on Tuesday, 21/10/2008 at ...... After careful consideration of the available evidence and in accordance with the Crown Prosecution Service guidelines, it has been decided that no further action will be taken in respect of this matter. Should any additional information come to light within the statutory time limit of 6 months from the date of the incident, it may be possible to reopen the investigation.

Keith, that sucks!

So that's three club members hit by vehicles in Surrey this year (Adam vs van, Grahame vs pickup and Keith vs car), and in each case they have declined to take any action.

Is it time we thought about a letter to the chief constable or the IPCC?

Haha, where have I heard that before.

I currently have a similar letter from the Met. Instead, saying they have no witnesses. More like, the attending officer didn't bother taking any details so that they didn't have to investigate. Well tough, dodgy rozzers, I have witnesses so you'll bloody well investigate...

Do I have to be killed for the Police to take action?

chaps this is shocking.... how poor of the police.

I have been very lucky then, as the lady who hit me took full responsibility and the insurance company just paid out with no quibbles,

I’m sorry to say it but… being a girl helps…. (Apologies to feminist across the land)

Also they are improving the visibility on that corner where she pulled out from... result.. (i should be in one of those adverts! haa haa )

Yes we do need to write to the chief constable and to the TFL ‘better off on your bike’ campaign, maybe even the DVLA, and they can add more emphasizes to the tests about cyclists awareness

Its not helping anyone to just moan on this forum… I’m a big letter writer,

I wrote a nice letter to national express a few weeks ago as one of their buses on a Saturday cut really close to me on the a23…… and they wrote back, telling me the driver was located, given a disciplinary/telling off and sent on a driver awareness course… and they also enclosed a voucher..

Maybe we should get Huw to run some cycle defenses lessons in Addition to the Go-Ride cycling skills sessions

The girls and I have signed up for some self improvement and to regain a bit of confidence..

if anyone else is thinking about it ....its on the 30th at 11.30 at Monks Hill sports centre..

see you then

Love their use of the word "collision", as if you were both equally to blame.
See how vigorously they'd have pursued you if you'd thumped the driver on the nose for nearly killing or maiming you, mealy-mouthed, box-ticking jobsworths.

In my case, apart from sticking the bike in the boot of the car and driving down the road, I don't think I could have ridden any more defensively

Some years ago I was knocked off my bike by a motorcyclist turning right in front of me. Swapped details just in case, but it wasn't until later that I found out I'd broken my shoulder.

His insurers paid up for the damage to me (none suffered by the bike) without too much trouble as he admitted liability without me having to do anything other than write one letter. Imagine my surprise though when I got a letter from Plod to say that the motorcyclist had been to them and told them what had happened but (get this) they weren't going to pursue it further.

So, we have another road user basically saying that he's caused an accident, it was his fault, the other party has suffered an injury - and still they decide not to do anything. This was just a few months after I picked up a fine for, shock horror, not stopping at a zebra crossing when a couple of rozzers were starting to cross on the other side of it.

As I say though, this was years ago and I'm over it now, not bitter or anything, oh no  .

Doesn't matter what you look like if they just don't look and see you.
