It is booked Huw, although I'm happy for you to check if you want an excuse to go over there  .

Not sure how either of you have managed to cross thread a sprocket, it ain't like the threads are vary dainty on a fixed wheel. Besides if it was screwed on properly with a lockring (step-down reverse-thread) fully tightened against it even your mighty power wouldn't make it even know you were there  .

10 minutes he's had it - crashed and cross threaded the sprocket - ruddy students

So if it's not so easy to cross thread the bloody thing, how have I stripped it!?

Must be the 2,500watts I put down pulling away from the lights each time...

God knows, I'm about as ham-fisted as you can get and I've never managed it. What's the hub, is it a cheap one? If you want some new wheels for it then Pearson's do some very nice handbuilt box section Ambrosio rims on large flange Ambrosio flip-flop hubs for £120 a pair. Had mine about 3 years now and still good as new.

The hub is one of those Abrossio's you mention (No freewheel, just flip flop).

So I'm ok on the other side at the moment, and since I only ride to uni or the station on it, it's not big deal...

Just annoying, especially when your stranded in the middle of a roundabout! Curiously though if I back pedalled it was almost as if the thing wound itself back up again, meaning I did make it home without walking!

There is a lockring on isn't there? Bit dodgy backpedaling otherwise  .

Sounds like this ought to be my "maintenance" class instead?

Step 1 . How to screw on a fixed sprocket

Trust me, there's a lockring!

Which was done up tight as, no problems. Just somehow the thread of the hub, for the sprockett, got threaded. But, when I backpedaled, it tightened back up some how!? Who knows.

Problem solved now, it's swapped to the other side and running like a dream once more.

Bloody journalists, couldn't screw a sprockett on if they tried! :P

Two years and never a hitch, two years of uninterrupted, gear-free blissful riding.

Sell it to a student and ten minutes later it's either broken or traded in for drugs

I think the real problem is rider a. weighs about 60kg, and can't sprint to save his life. Where as rider b. weighs 10kg more and is being pestered by a BC coach to do more track... 8)

I was looking at the size of your legs on Saturday Adam ( ) and wondering if mine would ever get that big. I don't think there's a hope of that though.

What am I saying. When I was 18, I hated my Grandmother for passing on her 'farmers' thighs' to me, now that I am cycling I am finding they are distinctly useful.

You should go for track Adam, after all the points count in the BC classification. It may end up being your forte.

I'd love to have a go, sounds like fun. Could build up the legs a bit too!

No hills on the track either 8) :D .

On the downside, it's on a fixed wheel with all the sprocket hazards that come with that...  .
